H. Watts florist located in Plymouth is owned by Sally Edgcumbe. Along with her talented team, she provides a personal and bespoke service for weddings and events, delivering to Plymouth and the surrounding areas. Sally tells us , “At H. Watts, we understand how important it is to work towards, and develop, sustainable practices of design in the floristry industry, from sourcing materials and bearing in mind seasonality, to packaging and minimising waste. As a whole, it’s refreshing and hopeful to see so many florists and professionals within the industry committing to sustainability, in particular when it comes to wedding arrangements. Wedding work not only requires a higher number of materials, but also the best quality flowers and additional labour – from the creation to transportation. Therefore, we continuously work to incorporate sustainable practices into our wedding flowers to minimise our environmental impact throughout the entire process, while still ensuring that our clients receive the designs of their dreams. We support our customers and advise them on flower seasonality while also offering locally grown blooms which not only ensures the flowers look their best and last longer, but it minimises transport and production processes and eliminates the need for climate-controlled growing conditions, both of which can harm the environment.” Sally continues,” For all our weddings, we use sustainable and biodegradable packaging for storage and transport and strive to use sustainable artificial materials – for example, to tie the design – or design mechanics that are either biodegradable or reusable wherever possible. Additionally, we aim to minimise waste by using leftover or broken materials in other designs, such as gift work.
