Hashtags such as #grownnotflown #nofloralfoam and #seasonalflowers are just a few of many on social media platforms highlighting the trend towards a more sustainable approach in wedding floristry. This is helping couples make informed choices about the beauty of seasonally available and locally grown varieties for their celebrations.” Simon continues, “Herbaceous, garden-style arrangements are hugely popular, but that doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself to only having cut flowers. Flowering plants and fragrant herbs make beautiful centrepieces which can then be gifted to friends and family after the wedding. If you have set your heart on fresh flowers then try to be as seasonal as possible. Work with what’s available when you’re getting married, and trust your florist to create something which truly celebrates that.” Simon agrees with florist Marina Law, adding, “If being as environmentally friendly as possible is important to you, then consider going foam-free. Traditional floral foam, which is used in many arrangements, is single-use plastic. It’s also expensive, messy to work with, and heavy when wet, so ask your florist if they can create something without it - they’ll probably be only too delighted! We always recommend to our couples to pick seasonal blooms when deciding on their big-day flowers. We’re always looking for, and trying out, new products that are natural-based, biodegradable and eco-friendly. We feel this is important to our couples and our business to be kinder to our planet.” LET’S CONNECT: www.floralartdevon.co.uk www.facebook.com/floralartdevon www.instagram.com/floralartdevon 60
