Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - January/February 2021 (Issue 29)
Our cake was made by our neighbour, Alice, who is incredibly talented. I wanted a naked cake for a rustic feel and Howie had joked that he wanted a dinosaur cake so Alice surprised us with golden dinosaur bride and groom toppers and the groom was even holding a guitar! My veil belonged to my new mother-in-law, Martine, and it was what she wore on her wedding day. She very kindly let me have it as my something old and something borrowed. “I nearly cried saying my vows which was a huge surprise to me as we both thought Howie would be the one to cry!” - Sam The team at the pub had sectioned off our separate area where there was a magnificent roaring fire right next to us that kept us all cosy. Our table plan had to be worked with family bubbles sat together because of the restrictions that were in place at the time so our best man had our seating plan and was in charge of making sure that everyone found their seats which we appreciated. “We both felt full of joy on the day because it has been a difficult year for us so to be able to finally tie the knot was so important.” - Sam and Howie All of our decor was centred around the wonderful floral arrangements handmade by my mother who has a passion for floristry. Some of the varieties were grown in her allotment. REAL WEDDINGS 35 Howie wore a country-style grey tweed suit and his waistcoat was a striking copper colour to stand out. His ring was his grandfather’s wedding ring that had been passed down to him which he had resized and he finished his look with his funky Jeffrey West shoes.
