Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - May/June 2020 (Issue 25)
My brother-in-law built an amazing sweet cart for us which was a big hit with guests on the day. We were also keen to have a hanging frame for our polaroid camera, which our guests could use to record the day, so he built a wooden frame to use as a photo booth. I wanted a lot of personal touches at our wedding, so I designed and made all of our signs, using wood stain and chalk paint. Our favours were personalised tags with a heart-shaped chocolate attached. I wanted to keep everything simple and rustic to tie in with the barn setting. I had seen some on Pinterest that I liked so I replicated these. One of my best friends, Jasmine, kindly offered to make our wedding cake. I wanted it to be fairly simple and rustic-inspired so we agreed on a naked cake decorated with stems of eucalyptus. There were three different layers of chocolate, vanilla sponge, and lemon and raspberry sponge. It looked and tasted incredible! Holly from Hollyhocks Florist created exactly what I had envisaged for our bouquets and the floral arch at the front of the arbour. She used pastel pink and cream roses combined with eucalyptus and greenery. The flowers looked stunning and created the perfect backdrop to get married in front of. For our centrepieces we placed a log ring with eucalyptus stems loosely arranged on top on each table. We added a lantern in the middle holding fairylights and displayed a photo frame featuring each table name. We wanted them to be personal to us so chose places that we had travelled to together, or that meant something to us both. We added a framed polaroid of us in that location on each table. “We loved having the outdoor firepits lit during the evening – they created such a romantic ambience.” – Gabby Pencoose Pantry provided our evening food. Based in Cornwall, they had previously catered for my sister’s wedding so we knew what a fantastic service they offered. They produced some tasty sweet and savoury crêpes which were a real hit with our guests. REAL WEDDINGS 43
