Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - Mar/Apr 2020 (Issue24)

Our cake was a multi-tiered display of cheese and our guests baked some extra puddings for us that we labelled with surfboard-shaped tags. My parents surprised us with their speech portrayed through a Punch and Judy show! The children were invited to the front to watch it and we were sat on deckchairs. All of our guests were laughing at their performance! Our table plan was a map of North Devon and the names were specific places in the region that we had visited together. We framed photographs of us acting silly against road signs in each of these locations. Our centrepieces were handmade nautical-themed displays with flowers, candles and decorative shells sat on a piece of slate. Each guest was given a hand-crafted surfboard decoration and a nautical wine charm with their name on at their place setting. S tacey and Gary first met at work but it wasn’t until her leaving party that they spent any quality time together. “I went round to Gary’s flat and never left!” Stacey tells us. The couple became engaged in a surprise proposal on her birthday. “We had gathered all of our friends and family together for breakfast at Watkins & Faux in Southsea and Gary had created a word game that involved six teams being given a set of letters to decode a word and then form a sentence,” Stacey tells us. “It finally read ‘Stacey Allan will you marry me’ to which he got down on one knee and proposed to me! It was a total surprise and there were plenty of tears.” Here, Stacey tells us about their seaside-themed celebration. We wanted to get married at Westward Ho! We surf there four to five times a year as well as visit it to walk our dogs and my parents live close by in Bideford. The Pier House enjoys views of the beach and has a holiday park adjacent to it that was ideal to accommodate all of our guests. 34
