Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - November/December 2019 (Issue 22)

27  REAL WEDDINGS G eorgia and Dave met through a mutual friend who he went to school with. “We were 17 and 19 and both asked the same friend to swap our numbers,” Georgia tells us. “I was attracted to his height,” she explains. “I thought she had a great smile,” Dave says. Dave asked Georgia to marry him in a surprise proposal in London. “He had booked us to stay in a stunning hotel overlooking Westminster and we spent the evening at a show,” Georgia tells us. “On the return to our suite, as we stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window against the backdrop of Westminster all lit up, he popped the question.” SETTING THE SCENE “We had always wanted to be married in a manor house and when we decided on a winter wedding, Langdon Court just felt right,” Georgia explains. “We wanted atmospheric lighting and open fires so it was the perfect choice.” The couple chose a colour scheme of white, grey, green and silver for their December day. “Because it was close to Christmas, the venue had their own decorations up which added a wonderful festive touch,” Georgia tells us. “We hired chair covers adorned with brooches and our favours were personalised Christmas decorations that we made for each guest.” The couple’s chosen colours were mirrored in their floral arrangements. “We really wanted our flowers to represent winter so our florist worked with white and green varieties teamed with berries and fern,” Georgia describes. “We stood in front of a 5ft round arch covered in ivy and fairylights during our ceremony and had wreaths made to sit under the large candelabras as centrepieces for our tables.” The couple chose a mirrored acrylic table plan, a welcome sign and an order of the day that were all engraved, plus mirrored table numbers and place names to match their invitations. They served their “Saying our vows that we wrote ourselves was a memorable moment for us both.” – Georgia
