Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - Sep/Oct 2019 (Issue 21)
37 REAL WEDDINGS The couple had a personalised table plan of pictures taken from their pre-wedding photo shoot presented on an easel to greet guests on their way into the wedding breakfast. Their tables were numbered and along with each number was a photograph of them both at that age. “We ordered clay hearts with each guests’ name hand-stamped on them that they could take away with them,” Whitney tells us. “This was alongside a small bottle of Jägermeister and Jägermeiste -flavoured fudge as favours for the men, and a jar of sweets, wildflower seeds and a candle for the women. We wanted to give our guests some thoughtful gifts that would tie in with our pastel theme.” The couple served their loved ones a three-course wedding breakfast, and a hog roast and cheese board during the evening, plus lots of sweets and savoury snacks. “We didn’t want anyone going hungry!” Whitney tells us. Their wedding cake followed the pastel theme and had tiers of Victoria sponge, lemon drizzle, chocolate orange and salted caramel. For the reception, the couple decorated the castle with fairylights, strands of colourful bunting and hired giant light up LOVE letters. Guests enjoyed looking at a photograph board made using light up pegs, and there were crates of flip flops and blankets provided for those wanting to sit outside. “In each of the bedrooms, we put a hangover kit incase it was needed the following morning!” Whitney tells us. LOOKING THE PART “I fell in love with my dress straight away,” Whitney tells us. “I loved the lace detail on the back and the shape and size of the skirt. I accessorized it with a beaded belt and plain veil, and teamed it with a Pandora bangle, pearl earrings and a ring which was a gift from my nan on my 18th birthday.” Whitney also wore tiny roses in her hair to complement her bouquet of roses, ranunculus and wildflowers, and a pair of glittery Betsey Johnson shoes. “I changed into my pink Converse trainers for dancing in later on!” Martin wore a bespoke textured navy suit with a tweed waistcoat, bow tie and pocket square. He accessorised it with stag cufflinks and a cream and white ranunculus buttonhole to match the bridal bouquet. “His groomsmen wore blue three-piece suits teamed with white shirts, pink tweed bow ties, pocket squares and cream rose buttonholes,” Whitney describes. The couples’ bridesmaids opted for pastel pink full-length dresses teamed with pink strappy sandals, and hairpieces and earrings featuring different coloured pastel Swarovski crystals. “They all looked so beautiful,” Whitney recalls. TIME TO CELEBRATE The couple entertained their guests with a jazz band, garden games and an ice cream tricycle for the lawn reception, plus a DJ and photo booth for the evening. “Our guests loved the fireworks finale,” Whitney tells us. “It seemed to go on forever and was one of the most special moments allowing me to reflect on such a wonderful day.”
