Your Cheshire and Merseyside Wedding - January/February 2025 (Issue 79)

SHOWSTOPPING BAKES Clare Deary from Cake On The Lake (www.cakeonthelake.com) says: The past several years have seen a huge trend in couples ordering a small, single tier cutting cake with a variety of other desserts (such as cupcakes, cookies, and bars) for their guests to choose from. While this is still a lovely dessert option for any wedding, we expect to see clients shift toward ordering large, multi-tiered wedding cakes with more extravagant designs. Larger, more grand wedding celebrations are becoming popular again, and nothing signifies this better than ornate, tiered wedding cakes. These towering showstoppers aren’t just for show; they’re a fantastic way to incorporate multiple cake flavours, giving guests more variety. For couples planning a big wedding with lots of loved ones, they serve both as décor and dessert, making it as functional as it is beautiful. Floral decorations have always been a wedding cake staple, but 2025 is taking this trend to new heights with intricate sugar florals. These edible works of art are incredibly realistic, often indistinguishable from real flowers, and are perfect for couples looking to bring a touch of nature to their cake. I believe we’ll see even more elaborate installations that enhance the cake’s presence, turning it into a true centerpiece of the celebration. Expect beautifully styled tables with a cohesive, stunning aesthetic that’ll elevate the overall experience and give the cake the attention it deserves. It’s about creating a unique moment and it’s a really effective way to inject some fun and style into the reception. I think a touch of the 80s style will come back. From pairs of sweet swans and the classic couple standing in a ruffled-tulle heart, 80s-style toppers are crowning cakes once again. Kitschy cakes have been on the rise as trending cake designs for the past couple of years and these classic, vintage additions feel like a darling throwback to the weddings of our parents. In the same vein, tier spacers like the neoclassical columns that propped up the cakes of the ‘80s will be back in style alongside the aforementioned wedding cake topper trends. BOOGIE WONDERLAND Mikey Fell from Ukebox (www.ukeboxband.co.uk) says: Having performed at weddings since 2012, we’ve seen a load of new fads and even old trends making comebacks too. We’ve loved the addition of photo booths, which now seem a staple at any event, and some newer things like the Mr & Mrs signs that really set off the look of your room. Looking forward to 2025 trends, I see a shift in the whole daytime/ evening celebrations. I know the main event usually happens during the day, but as we move towards a less fussy and more cost-effective way of celebrating we’re predicting a shift in focus towards an evening party. The daytime event can be quite stressful. Lots of planning, early wake ups and long days. With the potential for a more laid-back evening do, you’ll have no more worrying who to invite to the day or evening, just a big party to celebrate your wedding! This means that you can also look at more cost-effective venue choices closer to transport links and hotels too. It also means you need to think even more about getting your wedding band sorted – so give us a shout! ALL ABOUT YOU Your Cheshire & Merseyside Wedding editor Kelly Andrews says: Content creators started making an impact in 2024 and 2025 will see them gathering momentum. Free yourselves and your wedding party from the responsibility of snapping all those Insta-worthy moments as the day unfolds, and have a professional do it for you. They’ll deliver you thousands of images ready to access the following day allowing you to relive those amazing memories and see the bits you missed. You’ll have a world of content for social media ready and waiting to go in no time flat. It’s the perfect accompaniment to your professional wedding album and video. Instead of the traditional drinks reception where guests raise a glass of bubbly, many are opting for a super-chic cocktail hour. Work with your venue or bar provider to develop your very own bespoke wedding cocktail and give it a fun name to display at the bar. Alternatively, select your faves for his and hers options. You can also theme your cocktails according to the season. Something fresh and citrusy or fruity goes down a treat in the summer, as does Pimm’s. Meanwhile, mulled wine or warming whisky concoctions are perfect for the winter. A huge consideration when planning a sustainable wedding are the favours. If you love the idea of gifting your loved ones a small token of your appreciation for sharing your big day with you, you’ll find options have shifted. There’s been a huge move away from disposable gifts that get left behind or chucked. Remember just because you think something’s cute, the chances that 100 other people will think the same is quite limited. Edible, and indeed drinkable, favours are now the thing. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the region too and support local artisans. We love ideas such as local honey or oil. Many couples opt for a tipple and at a certain point during proceedings will invite everyone to take the shot since they’ve tied the knot! Ave Calvar on Unsplash EXPERT ADVICE 47
