Your Cheshire and Merseyside Wedding - July/August 2024 (Issue 76)

Q&A Beauty Look and feel your big-day best with help from the professionals STAYING POWER With summer temperatures soaring in recent years, I’m genuinely worried about maintaining the look of my make-up throughout my August wedding day. Can you suggest anything that would help to keep it looking great? Pro bridal make-up artist Michelle Cooper from The Bridal Lab (www.thebridallab.com) says: The key here is in the way you set your make-up along with a couple of other little tricks... •Powder. Set your finished make-up completely using a loose, translucent powder. Thinking of professional photography be sure it has zero flashback (nobody wants moon face in their images). I recommend Laura Mercier translucent setting powder as it’s finely milled and so light on the skin. It blurs fine lines and pores giving you that filter-like, flawless finish. •Setting spray. Use a good setting spray next, as this will melt your products into the skin creating a seamless, glowing look. •Fixing spray. Not to be confused with setting spray, this fixes your glam for ultra long wear. I recommend Kryolan, which ensures your make-up is sweat proof, transfer proof and waterproof. It’s the spray all summer brides need! •Blotting paper. My brides receive a touch up kit with everything they need to protect their bridal glam throughout the day and this includes blotting papers. So, when the heat is on, you can simply press the paper onto your skin and all excess oil and sweat is removed without disrupting your make-up. •Top tip. Don’t forget your SPF! •Bonus. Hear me out: hide a small handheld fan inside your bouquet facing you to keep cool. Who’s gonna know? Thank me later! LIP SERVICE I never wear lipstick, but I’m worried my look might appear unfinished without on my wedding day... What advice can you offer me for feeling comfortable while wearing lippy? Make-up artist Emily Lawton (www.emilylawtonmua.co.uk) says: If lipstick is something you don’t usually wear, I’d firstly say you don’t need to feel like you have to go for a bold lip on your wedding day. The most important thing is to feel comfortable and the best version of yourself. A good choice is to go for a similar colour to your natural lip, using a liner to slightly enhance and then a neutral shade so that the look feels finished but not overdone. If you really aren’t a fan of lipstick you could always go for a lip liner, again similar to your natural colour, and just top this with a clear balm. This will bring the look together without your lips standing out or being the feature. Remember, it’s your day and whatever you feel the happiest with is the right option for you. EXPERT ADVICE 67
