As I sit in the office writing to you all, my mind turns to summer weddings and all the gorgeousness they bring. There’s much to look forward to as year on year we see our local couples stepping up the creativity and personalisation. With the fine weather (we hope) and longer days it’s a great time to get outside and enjoy the open air. There’s nothing like relaxing al fresco with a cool drink in hand on a balmy summer’s eve. Even better when surrounded by loved ones on your wedding day. Pastel palettes work beautifully in the summer as do brights, but have you considered blending the two? The trend for 2024 is using various hues of the same colour to bring the day’s elements together. Think Peach Fuzz, blush, coral and rust; or what about sage, mint, olive and emerald with a dash of gold? Keep the overall palette light using occasional pops of a dark or bright shade to breathtaking effect. Check out our styled shoot from page 37 for a demo – I’m obsessed. Why stop at your venue styling? Colour too can be incorporated into your attire. Grooms are no longer restricted to black or grey thanks to a wide variety of summery pastel lightweight suits on the market. And you’re not forced to plump for white you know. Blush, light dusky blue or even florals are becoming more prevalent in bridal fashions. Bearing in mind the potential searing temperatures, keep yourself and your best gals cool in floating fabrics such as chiffon, organza, tulle and crepe. Cheshire’s bountiful land comes to life during the summer months, so it’s the best time to serve a wedding feast packed with local, seasonal produce. If the sun’s out, guests might not fancy sitting down to a hot three-course meal, so have a think about the increasingly popular grazing table, afternoon tea or barbecue. For a sweet treat, surely an ice cream van or trike is a must! And bespoke cocktails in the gardens? Don’t get me started! Pimm’s anyone? Don’t miss our feature on venues with glorious gardens ready and waiting for just such a moment over on page 19. All this talk of the sun might scare it away, it’s proving a little shy as I write this. So, I’ll leave you to grab a cuppa and enjoy this issue. As ever, enjoy and keeeep planning! That’s why Nathalie has been hard at work in her studio over the past 12 months creating a range of sustainable wedding favours. “I see the same favours at weddings such as scratch cards, lottery tickets, macarons, miniature bottles of limoncello and so on,” Nathalie explains. “They’re lovely, but I want to see something different. This is where the idea for creating something sustainable came from.” The beautiful collection of sustainable favours features luxury seed bombs made from completely eco-friendly materials. Handmade, they’re filled with wildflower seeds, which can be planted in the ground or in pots allowing guests to watch them grow year after year as a reminder of your special day. We also love the fragrant lavender bundles. “British flowers are close to my heart,” Nathalie shares. “They make the most romantic designs and lavender is one I include where possible.” As wedding favours, she ties small bundles together with thank you tags. They’re not only gifting something cute, but as they’re dried they’ll last a while, is scented and has plenty of uses. WARMER Winte Lizzy and Matt’s cosy January wedding was styled with a rich, warm palette with an oh-so cool city chic vibe Images courtesy of ARJ Photography 22

Lizzy and Matt met when working in ASDA during their student days. “We bonded over our love of indie classics and Leeds festival,” Lizzy says. However, the timing wasn’t right then and they decided to remain friends instead of pursuing a relationship. It wasn’t until a few years later that they decided to give it a go and the rest is history! “We had the most incredible first date at the beach and we quickly fell in love,” Lizzy remembers. Matt proposed in St Ives having taken Lizzy for a picnic and finding a gorgeous spot where they could watch the sun set. Just as the sky was changing colour, he got down on one knee and asked the big question. Lizzy had seen Scale on Instagram a few years previous and had always admired its aesthetic. She remembered it when they came to look for a wedding venue, thinking what a great blank canvas it would be for creating their own magic. “It was perfect for a winter wedding with lots of lights and candles,” she explains. “It had a cosy vibe even though the room was pretty big.” They were also shown sister venue, Fabric, which was still a building site at the time, it being early days. “We immediately loved the Cove and the thought of what we could turn that into on our wedding day,” Lizzy remembers. So, the date was set for 5th January 2024. Read on as Lizzy gives us the lowdown on the big day... SETTING THE SCENE Having opted for a cosy, romantic winter wedding, the couple chose a palette of reds and pinks. “We wanted flowers to be the focus as they’re important to us,” Lizzy reveals. Incredible rose pillars stood at the altar, while rose meadow arrangements served as aisle ends. Upstairs, bud vases were used to adorn the tables, which were also decorated with brass candlesticks holding pink candles, plus burgundy napkins. The couple’s stationery was monochrome and elegantly simple. Each table setting had a menu and place name. “The tables looked incredible – like something from Hogwarts,” Lizzy shares. There was also a large welcome sign at the entrance to the reception along with a theme-fitting table plan, both held by brass frames. The romantic atmosphere was created using an abundance of candles, fairylights and festoon lighting. A friend made their white, two-tier cake topped with a gold acrylic ‘Mr and Mrs Holmes’ sign. “The meal was perfect,” Lizzy remembers. Fig and The Wild provided the couple’s requested simple yet super-tasty food in the shape of winter favourite Scouse, the idea being that everyone would be fed up of roast dinner this soon after Christmas! Lizzy and Matt sat at their own sweetheart table, which gave them a wonderful chance to talk properly and take everything in. LOOKING THE PART Lizzy wore a beautiful Essense of Australia gown. It was pulled for her by her niece and felt incredible when she tried it on. “I loved the fabric and shape, as well as its modern, classy feel. It seemed to fit the idea I had in my head,” the bride explains. She accessorised it with a gem embellished, full-length veil, pearl earrings and shoes from Charlotte Mills. Her mum also gave her a beautiful bracelet featuring a blue gem as her something blue. “I wanted to keep my accessories to a minimum so as not to detract from the dress,” Lizzy says. Matt, meanwhile, looked dapper in a three-piece dinner suit, with all his groomsmen dressed to match. Lizzy’s adult bridesmaids all looked stunning in oyster-coloured, silk, asymmetrical dresses. IF MUSIC BE THE FOOD OF LOVE... For the ceremony and reception the couple enlisted the services of Harmony String Quartet. “They brought tears to my eyes with their beautiful music,” Lizzy shares. The bridal party walked down the aisle to Wildest REAL WEDDINGS 23

Dreams by Taylor Swift, and the bride followed to Can’t Help Falling In Love With You by Elvis. Later, the newlyweds signed the register to How Long Will I Love You. “The most special part for me, was walking back up the aisle to Just Like Heaven by The Cure, which had been specially arranged for us,” Lizzy tells us. Lizzy and Matt entered the reception room to Best Of My Love by The Emotions, met by guests swinging their napkins around their heads. “It just felt so emotional to have all of these people we love be so happy for us,” Lizzy shares. During the evening, DJ Mervyn Lynch kept everyone boogying the night away on the dancefloor. “The highlight was how he mixed Chopsuey by System Of A Down with C’est la Vie by Bewitched!” Lizzy remembers. Elsewhere, Pineapple Photo Booth proved a great hit with guests. MEMORABLE MOMENTS “I felt totally calm in the morning, and the preparations were so much fun,” Lizzy recalls. “I started getting a git giddy and apprehensive in the car though, but my bridesmaids and mum calmed my nerves. It was incredible to see my dad at the venue waiting for me with my brother. He’d been very unwell, so it was the most special moment to see him there ready to take me down the aisle. Seeing Matt’s face as I walked towards him was incredible too, though it seemed like an age before he looked my way! “The ceremony was a perfect mix of the hilarious and heartfelt. I’ve known our celebrant Wendi most of my life, so it was very personal. She was the most perfect person to perform our ceremomy with her killer wit and heart of gold. Our mums lit unity candles to symbolise our two families becoming one and Wendi presented us with a love stone. We wrote our own vows and made promises to our little boy Harry too. “Every bit of our day was so special. Our suppliers went above and beyond and I’m so happy we chose every single one. The whole team at Scale were so kind and supportive through the planning process and on the day. They are truly the nicest bunch of people.” 24

Joanne and Jonathan tied the knot at The Oak Tree of Peover earlier this year on a beautiful spring day Images courtesy of Weddings by Mark SPRINGTIME ROMANCE Jo and Jon started out as friends. They were both going through a tough time when they met and became a support system to each other. The two are DJs and instantly had this major part of their lives in common, as well as sharing the same sense of humour. The time was right eventually though, and love grew between them. Jon had intended to propose New Year’s Eve of 2021, but unfortunately Covid stepped in and forced him to change his plans. Well again, he took Jo on a weekend spa break to Crabwell Manor in the January. Getting ready to go for a meal one evening, he turned to Jo and said: “I have something for you that you can wear tonight,” then got down on one knee. “It was just us in our suite, so it was a really personal and lovely moment,” Jo remembers. The date for the big day was set for 27th April 2024. Join us to find out more... 27 REAL WEDDINGS

I wore a Rachel Allan gown, style number MB6101. The ladies at Because I Love You Bridal were amazing. It really was my dream dress. I loved getting ready with my bridal party, that was really fun, there was no rushing or stress. Then, the first look when I was ready with my dad and father-in-law was really special. We were looking for a rustic aesthetic in a venue and somewhere with plenty of light. When we looked online The Oak Tree of Peover came up so we booked an appointment for a viewing – our first and our last. We instantly fell in love with it. It was exactly what we were looking for. Jon wore a beige suit jacket and waistcoat with navy piping, plus navy trousers and Oliver Sweeney shoes. He finished the look with a floral tie featuring our palette colours. His groomsmen all wore three-piece suits to match Jon’s, which they paired with dusky pink ties and personalised braces. We read our own personal vows, which was really special – not a dry eye in the house! 28

Olive Tree Catering took care of our wedding breakfast and evening meal, and the food was sensational! Our guests all commented on how amazing the food was. Flossies Weddings & Occasions created all of our décor and florals. They did a stellar job and we’re so pleased with what they did. The whole venue looked incredible and the flowers were stunning. My sister, Lisa, designed and printed all of our stationery. It all turned out beautifully. Instead of favours, we decided to do a game where we handed out keys to everyone and one of them unlocked a big padlock to win a bottle of Champagne or bucket of beers. My two bridesmaids were my two sisters, Lisa and Claire, who wore floor-length, off-and-on-the-shoulder dusky pink dresses. I also had a bridesman, one of my best friends, Alex, who wore a two-piece suit matching the groomsmen’s and wore a pink bow tie to differentiate him from the rest of the gents. 29 REAL WEDDINGS

I was so anxious and nervous! More so as you just want everything to go without a hitch after such a long and stressful time planning it all! But I calmed as soon as it all got into full swing. Jon was a little nervous but just fully embraced it all. He’s a really chilled person so he took it all in his stride. Following the casino we also had a modern bluegrass band to entertain us, and a DJ who set up from 10pm. Myself and the groom DJed for a little bit, which was so much fun. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it all.
