WORDS OF WISDOM KEVIN BROWN, KEVIN BROWN PHOTOGRAPHY www.kevinbrownphotography.co.uk Some photographers offer an engagement or pre-wedding shoot, but we’re camera shy and don’t know if it’s for us. What are the benefits? With around 500 weddings photographed we’ve lost count of the times people have said, “We’re not really that comfortable in front of the camera.” Carole and I have always included a short shoot in our pre-wedding meetings were possible. It’s is a great way to get used to being more at ease in front of the camera, as well as running through the plans for the wedding day. Occasionally, if we haven’t worked at a venue before we’ll meet there where possible – we only need half-an-hour or so. We’ve been doing this long enough to make our couples feel completely at ease, even if we haven’t met up with them until the wedding, although that’s rare. But our newlyweds always tell us that they felt so much more comfortable on the big day because of the pre-wedding shoot. We also ask them to choose a few images from it that we make into a set of table cards including a password and link to the online gallery for the wedding images. www.kevinbrownphotography.co.uk SAY “YES” TO THE DRESS CLARE LAIRD, CLARE SUZANNE BRIDAL www.claresuzanne.co.uk We’re engaged! Now what? Now you can start your research – read magazines, visit wedding fairs and get a feel for the theme you want for your wedding. The venue is always the first place to start. Once you’ve decided on that, you can discuss with them available dates and once set, you can start planning the rest of your big day. Your venue will generally recommend suppliers for you to look at, however it’s best to research all avenues. Once you have a few suppliers in mind, visit their websites and social media pages to get a feel for who they are and what they do. Look at reviews too and trust your gut. What if I’ve lost weight by the time wedding dress arrives? The process for ordering means we measure you and then your dress goes into production and arrives approximately six months later. It will be a very close fit to the measurements we took at the time of you visiting, but if you’ve lost or gained weight slightly, fear not! This is where the seamstress comes in and works her magic. We won’t let you leave looking less than 100 per cent perfect and ready for your big day. Dresses can be taken in and let out slightly. They always need a slight tweak anyway, generally to get the length right, which is why we have fittings so you don’t need to worry. How can we make our big day totally us? By remembering one rule... your day, your way! Speak to your suppliers and share your vision for the big day. We’re full of ideas if you need help, but it’s our job to listen too. Maybe even screenshot ideas from magazines, social media pages and so on. When it comes to your wedding dress, once you’ve found the one we can look at accessories – do you want a veil or blooms in your hair? Hair, make-up, flowers, adding a sash or belt – it’s all personal choice. Every bride is different, so the look you’ve chosen will be special to you. What’s your top planning tip? You’ll need your bridal shoes for your fitting. This is so that the length when wearing your shoes is perfect! www.tracyhannahphotography.co.uk www.kevinbrownphotography.co.uk WEDDING PLANNING 53
