Who else can’t believe it’s springtime already? It’s such a special time of year and in 2022 we all get to appreciate it so much more given the last two we’ve spent locked up! This issue we’ve got the usual blend of wedspiration from real weddings to expert advice and ideas including a look into the delicious world of showstopping wedding cakes. We’ve also got some glittering ideas for finishing off your big-day look with jewellery and accessories. Speaking of wedding glam, CWM’s very own bride Melissa has been turning her attention to her best gals and we’ve now got our dresses, if not in our hands then on order. It was a bumpy ride, but thanks to Melissa’s unending patience, we got there. We’re now looking at the even more fun stuff such as accessories, shoes, hair and make-up, which has led myself, my fellow bridesmaids and the bride herself to ponder the matter of just whose job it is to foot the bill for the glam? This in no small part is due to the fact that none of us seem able to get the lovely Melissa to take one single penny from us towards it. So, when Fragrance Direct told me they’d teamed up with wedding planer Hannah Rose to discuss just this matter, I was all ears! Thinking about the glam bill, Fragrance Direct asked Hannah whether it was the nearlyweds’ responsibility to pay for everyone or just themselves? She answered unequivocally, “Definitely everyone. If they’ve asked for people to be part of their day, the majority of the time this will fall to the couple to pay. Otherwise, their loved ones may be put off joining the wedding party. Some bridesmaids and groomsmen might be happy to contribute, but it’s always encouraged that the couple plan this into their budget and offer to pay for the basics such as hair and make-up if they want them to have it done. The cost will vary depending on the hair stylist and make-up artist, but I’d advise to allocate a minimum of £150-£200 per person for anyone who isn’t the bride or groom.” So, there we have it. We shall immediately cease arguing with the bride and accept her kindness gracefully. Enjoy and keeeep planning! Kelly x Kelly Andrews, editor Glam it up 24 52 43 Instead of a traditional long top table, Abbie and Greg opted for a round table putting themselves at the centre of the action, surrounded by loved ones. I’m looking to pair gold jewellery with my sage green bridesmaid dress and these beauties from Anuka would fit the bill. Can we just take a moment to appreciate real bride Nadine’s incredible bespoke wedding dress? WIN! NEWS Nearlywed Catch up on the latest from around the region SOMETHING BLUE Blue & Sixpence Bridal, Merseyside has been given a national award in the best bridal shops and jewellery category. Voted for by its couples, the accolade shows how valued the boutique is within its sector and is a real seal of approval for couples planning their weddings. These particular awards were designed to recognise businesses and individuals who have gone above and beyond to serve their clients during one of the most testing times the industry has ever faced. This year’s awards were based on almost eight million opinions and what better endorsement can there be than one from a couple who have tried and tested the suppliers’ work? Boutique owner and award winner Ali Hamilton is proud to be part of the Sustainable Wedding Movement, a member of the Association of British Wedding Businesses, and Totally Locally, a movement aimed at regenerating local high streets and economies. LOVE STRUCK DMR Jewellery, which has a showroom in Liverpool, has introduced a romantic new addition to its collection – Love Lines. Designed in-house at the brand’s Cheshire-based studio, it was influenced by one of the most notable romantic symbols, Cupid’s arrow. Cupid, the Roman god of desire and affection, has been famously portrayed throughout the centuries wielding a bow and arrow, which he’d use to make someone fall in love with the first person they saw. Seven individual pieces of jewellery make up this stylish contemporary collection, including earrings, neckwear and wristwear. Two new styles of earrings allow you to choose from diamond set or plain polished, crafted from 18ct yellow gold they’re priced from £950. Appreciating the trend for layering jewellery, a necklace set with 0.22cts of round brilliant-cut diamonds, bracelet and stacking bangles are also part of the Love Lines range. The versatile design means that Love Lines’ pieces will ensure you make a sparkling statement on your wedding day as well as forming part of your everyday layered look for years afterwards. WEDDING VID-SPIRATION Here at CWM HQ we’re literally never satisfied when it comes to providing our readers with enough wedspiration. Because, really, what is enough? We’d go on forever if we could. So, with that in mind, we’ve created our very own County Wedding Magazines YouTube channel, just for you. Here, you’ll find tons of big-day ideas from venue tours to dream dresses. Catch up on beauty reviews and how tos from our beauty editor and peek behind the scenes of styled shoots featured in our titles past and present. You can even be a fly on the wall at some real weddings – after all, if we’re honest, who doesn’t love being a bit nosey! And we haven’t stopped there, as you’ll also find local supplier interviews packed with tips and tricks. We’re adding more content all the time, so why not hit SUBSCRIBE so you never miss a thing? It’s your one-stop shop for wedding vid-spiration! Simply head to YouTube and search ‘County Wedding Magazines’ or click www.youtube.com/channel/UCMAChACKNanShdZwI5QGXMQ TOP TIPS When it comes to wedding-day wisdom, who can we trust more than those who’ve been there, done that and bought the t-shirt? So, when the bride is also a wedding supplier in the form of O’Hares Jewellers’ Rachael Whitwam, we were ready to sit up and pay attention. You can read all about her big day from page 37, but in the meantime here are some top planning tips from the bride herself. Rachael tells us, “We got as much as possible sorted and booked early on to give ourselves a much wider choice of suppliers. Everyone gets booked up so far in advance, especially for summer weddings, so this really helped to take the pressure off, giving us months where we didn’t have to think about wedding planning at all. “We had a few private dance lessons during the three weeks leading up to the wedding, which made us feel more relaxed about the first dance. Neither of us are dancers, so we kept it simple, but it made something potentially daunting fun and enjoyable. It was magical to be in the Great Hall at Peckforton Castle surrounded by our family and friends dancing to All of Me by John Legend. “Our wedding video made such a difference to us after the big day. It captures the moments you can’t get in photos alone. Our video by Harvey Films was beautifully edited and such a joy to watch. If you’re undecided about whether to have one, we can’t recommend it enough. We can’t stop watching ours!” EDITOR LOVES RECHARGE FOR W-DAY With 2022 bringing continued pandemic challenges, spa bookings agency Spabreaks.com is working with the UK’s top spas to offer new tailored packages designed to give you that all-important time out to recharge and boost wellbeing. A METEORIC RISE The start of 2022 has brought a record number of wedding requests to National Museums Liverpool (NML) as its events team prepares for its most romantic year in history! An unexpected flurry of wedding enquiries over the past six weeks has placed some of Merseyside’s arts and cultural landmarks in high demand amongst the region’s nearlyweds. In fact, January saw Hosted By National Museums Liverpool, NML’s events brand and in-house events team, responding to triple the number of wedding enquiries than the monthly requests received during the last three months of 2021. NML has seven venues, the oldest dating back to the 19th-century and includes some of the most-visited museums in England, outside of London. The Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight has become the latest venue to begin hosting weddings, with its first reception held in the magnificent Beaux-Arts style building at the end of 2021. Rebecca O’Neil, events manager at Hosted By National Museums Liverpool says, “Many of our artworks and collections have their own romantic stories and we enjoying playing a part in the love stories of today too. We’re having our busiest ever period for wedding enquiries including newly-engaged couples, as well as those who’ve delayed setting a date or rescheduled their wedding. There’s growing popularity in art galleries and venues that add an element of culture or nostalgia. We’ve also recently found that more people are coming back to their roots from elsewhere to get married.” Find out more about some of NML’s venues over in this issue’s historical and local venues features, or by heading over to www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/venue-hire/weddings LOCAL CHAMPS The Wedding Industry Awards are the only regional and national accolades voted for by customers rather than a panel. Light of my life Even the elusive Northern Lights came out in celebration when Abbie accepted Greg’s proposal of marriage Images courtesy of Lowri-Ellen Photography 24

Despite meeting at a festival in Wales aged just 16 and 17, Abbie and Greg didn’t really start getting to know each other until Greg sent Abbie a Facebook message a few months later. After a few dates at the beach, the pair realised they wanted to be together. “Greg says he was first attracted to my smile, while I loved how he could make me laugh until my stomach hurt – in fact he still does every day,” Abbie tells us. In 2017, Greg surprised Abbie with a trip to Iceland for her 21st birthday, and while there they decided to take a Northern Lights tour in the hopes they’d be kind enough to show themselves. However, by the time it reached 1am and the Northern Lights still hadn’t materialised, Abbie decided it was time to call it a night and try again another day. But, Greg suggested they take just one last picture. He set up the camera on a timer, and as the flash went off he got down on one knee and asked Abbie to marry him. “It was the best feeling in the world and The Northern Lights appeared five seconds later. I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal,” Abbie shares. The couple had been struggling to find a venue they loved until they drove up to the beautiful Talhenbont Hall. Abbie explains, “The property has a really nice feel to it with original features and old furniture. The grounds too are beautiful with lawns surrounded by forest and a river running around the estate. It felt so intimate and personal, which ultimately is the reason we chose to book. It really was the full package!” The wedding party had access to the venue’s grounds over three days, which meant family and friends could stay on site the night before the wedding right the way through to the day after... Read on as the bride tells us more about the big day, 15th November 2021... SETTING THE SCENE With an overarching white and dusky pink theme the centrepieces cleverly incorporated both in a different way. For the guest tables the pair embraced a minimalist approach with white blooms, while the top table, located at the centre of the room, was decorated with floral bursts of colour displayed in a blue and white Chinoiserie vase. The space was filled with tea lights, which created a cosy ambience, setting a romantic scene. The couple made their table plan using their lounge mirror, which they decorated with peach flowers and a hand-drawn gold outline. The table numbers were chosen to complement the design of simple white and gold while the place names were calligraphed by a talented family member. Caterers Cheeky Chilli served a selection of eight canapés, as well as a wedding breakfast of chicken, finishing with a trio of desserts. “They were absolutely amazing,” Abbie says. Speaking of sweet treats the mouth-watering big-day bake was a sight to behold! The single-tier vanilla cake was elaborately piped with pink and light blue icing and topped with cherries. “Birch Bakery did a fantastic job,” Abbie remembers. LOOKING THE PART “I knew exactly what I wanted my dress to look like and found the one. It made me feel so elegant and beautiful and I’ve never seen anyone wear anything like it,” the bride explains. A long-sleeve gown in bright ivory finished with buttons running it’s full length, Abbie felt it didn’t need more than a delicate crystal belt to add some sparkle and complement her earrings. Greg and his groomsmen all wore black tuxedos. The groom added a black floral waistcoat to his outfit in order to stand out and the suits were all finished off with black bow ties and peach rose buttonholes. The bridesmaids were dressed in dusky pink chiffon maxi dresses with open backs and silk bows. “They were very pretty dresses and both girls looked amazing,” Abbie remembers. TIME TO CELEBRATE Live jazz and swing band The Chaser Quartet played during the ceremony, drinks reception and wedding breakfast. Abbie had kept this a secret from Greg as it was a surprise gift for him on the day. During the evening, DJ Lee Morrison from Liverpool was accompanied by 25 REAL WEDDING

Jesus Martin on the sax. “They were both incredible and made the night. Everyone loved the music and the dancefloor was full all night,” Abbie remembers. MEMORABLE MOMENTS Abbie says, “Greg was fairly calm before the ceremony, but was extremely nervous about his speech. Once the music began and he stood at the end of the aisle waiting for me, he became overwhelmed with emotion and can’t remember anything from that point on!” Greg says, “Abbie didn’t manage to sleep much at all the night before, which only made the nerves worse in the morning. It was emotional for her getting ready with her bridesmaids and family, but as soon as she was with her dad, Cliff, she felt calm and ready to walk down the aisle.” The speeches were the part of the day that stood out most for both bride and groom. They weren’t originally going to have any as both groom and father-ofthe-bride knew how nervous they would be, but in the end their humour and genuine emotion shone through and they felt pleased with how everything went. “We’ve never seen so many men cry in one room,” Abbie laughs. The duo are incredibly grateful to all of their suppliers who were unbelievably helpful and made the day so special. Thanks go out to Alicia and Paul from Talhenbont Hall. Abbie says, “Even though we had to change the date due to Covid all suppliers were happy to make things as easy as possible for us and saved us so much stress. We can’t thank them all enough.” Before parting ways, the bride shares her top tip, “It’s easier said than done, but don’t let the stress and nerves build up before the big day, because once it arrives it’ll be the quickest day of your life and you’ll realise there was literally nothing to worry about. Everyone just wants the best for you, no matter what happens.” “We feel blessed to have been able to have the wedding of our dreams, with no restrictions, as this hasn’t been the case for everyone.” – Abbie 27 REAL WEDDINGS

I DO I love you After reschedu ing many tim s due to C vid, Georgia and Andrai finally tied the knot at Merrydale Manor in September 2021 Images courtesy of Emily Robinson Photography Georgia and Andrai met on MySpace through mutual friends. Aged just 15 and 17 at the time, they went on a first date to Liverpool’s Calderstones Park and have been together ever since. Andrai proposed while on holiday in Santorini. Georgia had always said she’d hate to be asked the all-important question in a room full of people, so he made sure he found a quiet moment. After a wine tasting at Venetsantos Winery, he set up his camera in a secluded spot and told Georgia he was putting the timer on to take a photo of them both with the sunset in the background. Then, once he’d arrived back at her side, he got down on one knee. Merrydale Manor ticked every wedding venue box for the couple. It offered exclusive-use, had plenty of accommodation for their family and friends and boasted stunning grounds and facilities. “We knew straight away we could see ourselves getting married there,” Georgia tells us. “We loved the curtain that divides the Merrydale Suite. For the wedding breakfast the curtain is closed and opens up for the evening. None of our guests knew this so it was a lovely surprise for our first dance,” she continues. Join us as Georgia tells us more about the big day... 30

The ceremony room was decorated with white draping and wisteria hanging from the wooden beams. Gospel choir Soulful Voices serenaded our guests during the ceremony, and I walked down the aisle to Your Love Is My Love by Whitney Houston. We walked out together to Beyonce’s 1+1. I wore Sophia by Anna Georgina. My mum chose my dress – she saw it on a mannequin and said: “You need to try that.” We knew it was the one straight away! Organisation is key! There’s nothing to get stressed about and it should be an enjoyable process, so start planning early and you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy it. I was set on having orchids for my bouquet, as they were my grandma’s favourite flower. We were very close and I wished she could’ve been there on the day along with my nan. I wanted something a little different, so I opted for a beautiful cascading orchid bouquet and had my grandma’s ring tied around it. REAL WEDDINGS 31

My bridesmaids were dressed in blush fishtail gowns with a cross strap and open back. Their bouquets were a mixture of hydrangeas and roses. We absolutely love to travel so when we spoke to our stationer, we knew we wanted something to reflect that. We had a map-themed table plan with pins on each of the amazing places we’ve visited and included a photograph of the two of us there. We named each table after our favourite travel destinations, with the top table being Santorini. Alicante is my family’s holiday hotspot, where we all go together. Amalfi Coast is one of our favourite holidays, as well as Thailand, Mexico, Miami and Dubai. Andrai’s groomsmen wore black tuxedos, and as the groom he wore a black velvet jacket to elevate his. The buttonholes were white roses. We had personalised macarons for each person, meaning they doubled up as place names. The ladies’ were strawberries and cream flavour blush macarons and the gents had pistachio cream flavour. Our centrepieces were a combination of floral arrangements and 10ft blossom trees with hanging glass baubles and floating candles. 32
