The pair hit it off instantly, discovering a mutually strong sense of family values and similar interests. So, despite the first nine months of their relationship being long distance while Ben completed his studies in paramedic science, they developed an unbreakable bond as love blossomed between them. Ben proposed in 2019 while in Florida swimming with dolphins. This had been a dream of Amy’s, so there seemed no better time. The plan was for the dolphin to bring a buoy over to Amy conveying the message, ‘Ben says I love you.’ He’d hoped that she would then turn to face him, at which point he’d propose but, that’s not quite what happened. “She threw the buoy back out into the pool without reading it,” Ben tells us. It turned out to be second time lucky though and the proposal was an eventual success. “She never expected it and was completely shocked,” Ben remembers.
