Not only does it offer a delicious delight it also serves as a showstopping centrepiece to your reception space, which nowadays is nothing short of a work of art. We chatted to some of the region’s wedding cake makers and asked whatever could be next in the wonderful world of big-day bakes. “A lot of my couples are looking forward to their 2021 weddings where a bold-coloured cake will be making a real statement to their wedding guests. Dark blues, greens and even black aren’t always people’s first choices, but can elevate your design to breathtaking levels, especially when combined with other elements such as cascading flowers or bas relief.” “Dried flowers and foliage continue to make their mark in styling and have made their way onto bakes, where they combine equally well with sugar or fresh flowers, often adding some architectural interest.” Nicola’s top tip “Consider your cake within your wider plans for the day. There are so many influences from your wedding that can be brought into the design of your cake, from the colour palette to your flowers and details on your attire. If you bring all of these with you to your cake consultation, we can work with them to ensure your cake is a real showstopping centrepiece, the perfect fit for you and your day.” www.ada mhudsonphotography.co.uk “In terms of trends for 2021, texture will continue to be popular. This could take the form of aged- or distressed- effect cake coverings, such as the look of antique plaster or concrete, or in the use of bas relief, which is particularly striking when used in a single colour design scheme.”
