Tell us about yourselves… Formed in 1982 we’re Carlton Ensemble string quartet and flute. We create an easy-listening sound for most styles of music, except rap! Over the years we’ve grown our repertoire to include 1400 classical and light music pieces from Bach to The Beatles, Mozart to Metallica, and Schubert to Sheeran, as well as Disney, show tunes, film and jazz. We consult carefully with every couple to ensure we play music to their taste and in keeping with the wedding theme. As a multi-generational group, we’ve proven very approachable and receive plenty of requests from guests on the day. What’s your proudest achievement as an ensemble? We twice played for Princess Anne, and our annual charity carol concert, now in its 39th year, has raised almost £40,000 for local causes. What’s your favourite piece to play at a wedding? Gabriel’s Oboe by Morricone. We call it Gabriel’s Floboe as our flautist performs it! We also love A Thousand Years , Stand By Me , and Mendelessohn’s Wedding March . What’s your top tip for couples looking to book a wedding band? If you can, go and see the bands you’re interested in play live before you book. This way you’ll get a good feel for what they’re really like. Some bands can look and sound great on video, but don’t so good live.
