Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding - February/March 2022 (Issue 87)

OF HOME THE green grass Kayley and George hosted their big day at the groom’s family farm Images courtesy of James Fear Photography Kayley and George were set up on a blind date by one of their eventual bridesmaids a decade ago. Kayley remembers, “We went out for dinner on a Thursday evening and the rest is history.” Or not quite! George unfortunately got he impression that Kayley didn’t like him, which she puts down to nerves, and they didn’t speak for a couple of weeks after their date. Happily however, the friend who’d set them up stepped in and texted George to tell him the truth: that Kayley really liked him. Then, that really was that! George booked a weekend away to celebrate Kayley’s 30th birthday. He kept the location a secret until the airport when he showed her a video he’d created revealing the incredible surprise destination to be Rome. Kayley tells us about what happened next: “We enjoyed an amazing meal the night we arrived, which was my birthday, then went for a walk around a beautiful square complete with fountains. It was then that George got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was a moment we’ll never forget.” When it came to selecting a venue for the big day the couple already knew where they wanted to tie the knot – George’s parents’ farm. Emborough Church (Church of The Blessed Virgin Mary) is right next door and their children had been Christened there, so like the farm itself with its magnificent views, it was a place that meant a lot to George. In order to get married at the church a special license from the Archbishop of Canterbury was required, so it was quite the honour to be able to hold their nuptials there.
