Q&A Beauty Look and feel your big-day best with help from the professionals BE PREPARED My skin has really been through the mill this summer thanks to the ravages of sweat, saltwater, chlorine and temperature changes. I’ve had everything from breakouts to dry patches. I’m getting married this autumn and now I’m panicking! How can I get it back to it’s best in time for my make-up artist to work her magic? Jane Dare from Eyedomakeup (https://eyedomakeup.co.uk) says: Wow the summer is over and I’m sure you’ve had a blast! Now, with your wedding just months away it’s time to make sure that your make-up looks perfect for the big day and that starts with your skin looking awesome. So, here are my top tips on prep, so you feel a million dollars in time for your wedding. Start a new skincare routine, determine the right products for your skin type whether it be dry, oily or combination. Dry skin is best cleansed with cream products, while combo and oily types prefer a daily wash cleanser. Next, you’ll need to tone. This rinses the skin and takes off final residue, helping to control oxidation when using foundations. Then, you’ll need to moisturise daily. Place the product somewhere accessible so you remember to use it! Once a week, exfoliate. This removes dead skin cells, opens pores and promotes new cell growth. Also, treat your skin to a sheet mask that’s deeply cleansing and hydrating. Facial oils are brilliant too, I recommend https://wildasthewind.com; and be sure to add an eye cream into your routine. If you do experience any outbreaks, don’t pop them. It’s more difficult to conceal on the day when they’re healing or angry. Finally, keep your fluid levels up and get plenty of rest. All of these tips will ensure your make-up sits perfectly on the skin, lasts all day and you’ll radiate confidence. NO REGRETS I’m unsure of how to wear my hair on the big day and I’m worried about regretting what I choose. Can you help? Nicole Petty, hair expert at Milk + Blush (www.milkandblush.com) says: Unfortunately, this is a common wedding regret, but opting for a timeless hairstyle over a trend can be the key to happily reflecting on your wedding day, and knowing how to cope with a potential hair disaster can save the day. So, which looks are considered timeless? Think about the classic chignon, waves, French twist or a half-up/half-down look, which can all be adapted to suit your particular face shape. A trial run is necessary to avoid a wedding hair disaster, as this will allow you to see how your hair will look on the day. Schedule a trial at least two weeks before your wedding and bring along any accessories you plan to wear, such as a veil, headband or hair pins. Also, consider your theme and venue. A hairstyle may look great in the salon or in an image, but it may not suit your theme or dress. For example, a lacy boho dress may not best suit a sleek high bun, and a ballgown may not suit loose and romantic waves. So, if you’re unsure, do some research and get some inspiration based on your theme, or ask your stylist for some ideas. Think about your hair type. Fine hair may not work for a voluminous updo or will require hair extensions, while cropped hair may be more difficult to work into an updo. If you have natural texture in your hair, embrace it and consult your stylist about shaping it into the style you want. Finally, have a backup plan. Things can go wrong on the day, and panicking will only cause you more stress. Be sure to communicate with your stylist if you’re not happy with how your hair looks. If things aren’t turning out as you’d hoped, have a plan B in place such as an alternative, simple look or a hair accessory that can cover any issues. A simple alternative is also useful to have in mind should your hair come loose or fall out of its style during the day. 69 BEAUTY Q&A
