As I sit here in the office writing to you all, my mind turns to summer weddings and all the gorgeousness they bring. There’s much to look forward to as year on year we see our local couples stepping up the creativity and personalisation. With the fine weather (we hope) and longer days it’s a great time to get outside and enjoy the open air. There’s nothing like relaxing al fresco with a cool drink in hand on a balmy summer’s eve. Even better when surrounded by loved ones on your wedding day. Pastel palettes work beautifully in the summer as do brights, but have you considered blending the two? The trend for 2024 is using various hues of the same colour to bring the day’s elements together. Think Peach Fuzz, blush, coral and rust; or what about sage, mint, olive and emerald with a dash of gold. Keep the overall palette light using occasional pops of a dark or bright shade to breathtaking effect. Why stop at your venue styling? Colour too can be incorporated into your attire. Grooms are no longer restricted to black or grey thanks to a wide variety of summery pastel lightweight suits on the market. And you’re not forced to plump for white you know. Blush, light dusky blue or even florals are becoming more prevalent in bridal fashions. Bearing in mind the potential searing temperatures, keep yourself and your best gals cool in floating fabrics such as chiffon, organza, tulle and crepe. Somerset’s bountiful land comes to life during the summer months, so it’s the best time to serve a wedding feast packed with local, seasonal produce. If the sun’s out, guests might not fancy sitting down to a hot three-course meal, so have a think about the increasingly popular grazing table, afternoon tea or barbecue. For a sweet treat, surely an ice cream van or trike is a must! And bespoke cocktails in the gardens? Don’t get me started! Pimm’s anyone? Speaking of nature’s bounty, what about the glorious homegrown flower varieties that spring to life at this time of year? Picture a bouquet packed with sweet peas, roses, peonies, hydrangeas and dahlias – heaven scent! Not to put a downer on things, but the British weather can be a tad untrustworthy, but as long as you’re fully armed with a backup plan or two you can let it be as unpredictable as it likes without a care. After all, who needs an excuse to hire an oh-so cool tipi or rustic stretch tent for cover? All this talk of the sun might scare it away, it’s proving a little shy as I write this. So, I’ll leave you to grab a cuppa and enjoy this issue. As ever, enjoy and keeeep planning! Where vows can be completely rewritten ensuring the occasion is meaningful and memorable. These personalised ceremonies focus on making the most of the experience, engaging not just the couple but the entire wedding group. “When they know the difference having a celebrant-led ceremony makes, couples are looking beyond the minimal legal requirements, desiring ceremonies that reflect their unique love stories and commitments to each other.” Discover more at https://justceremonies.co.uk 9 LOCAL NEWS NEW BEGINNINGS The iconic Francis Hotel in Bath is set to undergo a major £13million refurbishment, promising to breathe new life into this much-loved landmark. As one of the first Georgian buildings to be built in Bath, the Hotel was once home to 18th-century architect John Wood the Elder who was the inspiration behind the first Georgian stone buildings of Queen Square, the Royal Crescent, and The Circus. It has been a huge part of Bath’s history ever since. Working with award-winning interior designers 3DReid, the design concept planned for the Hotel and all 98 bedrooms will take inspiration from the Georgian era while appreciating all the modern amenities and touches that today’s traveller expects. The project will also see the introduction of a new destination-restaurant, The Townhouse Brasserie, which will showcase the finest British cuisine focusing heavily on seasonal and locally grown produce. Towards the end of the programme, a new thermal spa and three treatment rooms will also be created, tapping into Bath’s ambition to be the UK’s number one city for wellbeing. Find out more and get in touch at www.weddingregency.co.uk RAISE A TOAST ALCOHOL-FREE Vino Zero has launched in the midst of increasing demand for no-alcohol wines. Intially focsing on the South West, Vino Zero has been established to offer the hospitality industry, specialist retailers and consumers direct premium dealcoholised wines, which truly represent the best of those available. With one in three consumers now looking for a non-alcoholic option, Vino Zero’s mission is to support its sales partners in expanding their choices of premium no and low alcohol. While it’s a booming market category, the wine element has been behind the curve. The basis for any good wine is excellent grapes, and no or low wine is no different. Co-founder Fiona Graham says, “Vino Zero was founded on the simple belief that everybody deserves quality and inclusion. When I personally decided to stop drinking a couple of years ago, it was apparent there wasn’t a huge amount of choice in the no and low wine space. We believe that when it comes to alcohol, it shouldn’t act as a barrier to the ritual of eating and drinking. Vino Zero is here to demonstrate to the hospitality industry and beyond that an alcohol-free choice is one that can equally serve up quality, taste and experience.” Produced in the Loire, the initial wine launches include a sparkling Sauvignon Blanc, Vigneron Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Rose and Chenin Blanc. The George, which is available to host wedding receptions, is nestled in a quaint Somerset village just outside of Bath. A stunning historical venue it dates back to the 14th century and is a castle-like building recently updated by the owner respecting and highlighting its many original and unique features. Since the refurb, The George now sits within Liberation’s Butcombe Boutique Inns division, offering premium food, drink and accommodation in the shape of 13 charming bedrooms. The National Pub & Bar Awards judges said they were impressed with the immaculate venue, as well as the quality of food and drink offered across all of its menus. Despite being such a historical site, they noted how industry-leading the food and drink side of the business is. “This is absolutely amazing,” says general manager Linda Johnson. “I’m so proud and so emotional! I’m just so passionate about my team, the company that supports us, and obviously The George Inn and what we’re all about.” Find out about hosting your celebrations at The George Inn at https://butcombe.com/the-george-inn-somerset/wedding-venue

This is love Pia and Joe styled their big day in a beautiful modern palette of green, orange, blush and neutrals interspersed with touches of gold Images courtesy of Simon & Kiana Photography 24

While Pia and Joe were aware of each other at school, nothing happened between them until they were old enough for a bit of Dutch courage, and met up at a pub five year’s after leaving. “Although we weren’t high school sweethearts, meeting in our early 20s felt like the right time for both of us to have this forever thing going,” Pia explains. “It’s funny because even when we started dating, Joe said he didn’t want anything too serious. Obviously that didn’t quite go to plan!” While away on holiday in Dominican Republic in 2023, the couple stayed in the adults only Secrets Hotel in Punta Cana. Since they both love the beach they booked a romantic dinner there during golden hour, surrounded by lit candles and hearts drawn in the sand. While there, Pia noticed a bride who’d just been married on the beach. When she turned back to Joe she found him holding out his great grandmother’s ring. “That could be you one day,” he said, popping the question. “It was a girl’s perfect dream,” Pia remembers. The next day the couple began to celebrate and share the news with their nearest and dearest. “I was so detached from reality that I went to breakfast with my dress on inside out and back to front,” Pia laughs. Already nearly a decade into their relationship, the couple weren’t interested in a long engagement so they started looking for wedding venues as soon as they got home. On the hunt for something as local as possible, Joe found the beautiful Old Oak Farm, which was having its new barn built at the time. Even though it wasn’t 100 per cent complete when they viewed it they found themselves squeezing each other’s hands with excitement during the visit and immediately cancelled their other venue appointments. “It gave us all the amazing feels and we just knew it was where we’d become husband and wife,” Pia explains. They secured 15th June 2024 to celebrate their big day. Join us as the lovely Pia tells us more... SETTING THE SCENE “My idea for the theme was to keep a fleck of gold going throughout the mostly green palette, along with a touch of orange, blush and neutrals,” Pia explains. This clean, modern palette would work beautifully with the couple’s vision of a romantic rustic vibe. Favours were wildflower seeds in bags labelled: ‘let love grow’ in gold foil script. They also gave guests confetti in similar bags, which read: ‘throw some love.’ The table plan was presented in gold frames arranged in apple crates decorated with fairylights and rose petals. The place names meanwhile came in the form of gold goblet drink coins allowing guests to continue sipping their own drink! The couple hired long silk flower displays in their colour palette from Unique Designs by Tina, which would be suspended above the reception tables from gold frames decked in bauble candles. For a touch more colour, they added colourful goblets, gold chargers and cutlery plus neutral French linen napkins. The bridal party bouquets by Bouquet Florist in Cheddar were designed in keeping with the colour palette and included toffee coloured roses, to beautifully complement the gold. They were tied with twine to fit the rustic feel. The semi-naked two tier big-day bake was created by Love My Cake. It was adorned in gold leaf and flowers supplied by the wedding’s florist. A wooden cake topper personalised with Mr & Mrs Ansell sat proudly on top, and the whole thing was presented on a log slice stand. Pia and Joe made their own signs for the day using pallets and other wood remnants. These included a welcome sign, order of the day, backdrop and more. “We were pretty proud of bringing some of our own DIY to the wedding,” Pia says. “The catering by Old Oak Farm included their own signature cider.” REAL WEDDINGS 25
