Your Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wedding - February /March 2021 (Issue 87)
36 One way that we made up for friends and f amily (including my grandparents) who weren’t a ble to attend our wedding due to the restrictions in place at the time was by playing a video of some of t hem in a virtual choir all singing a hymn. We didn’t have a table plan but we did go big on favours! Because we could only invite 30 guests, my sister (who is a big foodie) was excited to make raspberry and prosecco jam in little jars. She also made heart-shaped biscuits! The ceremony was really beautiful. It was very important to us because we’re both Christians so we spent a long time creating the order of service, choosing songs and readings from the Bible, and we’re really happy with how it all turned out. It was lovely to have lots of family members involved in the ceremony - they led the service, prayed for us and gave the address. We got married in the church that I was a part of when I was growing up which is still my parents’ church. Andy’s dad married us which was very special! “It was amazing how family members of mine, who live in Ghana, could watch the live stream of the ceremony.” – Harriet Andy proposed to Harriet on 1st December 2019. “I knew that it was coming, and even suspected that it might be on that particular day, but Andy played it very cool and didn’t seem nervous at all! In the morning, he suggested that we go for a walk to the botanical gardens in Durham where we had visited when he officially asked me out which confirmed my suspicions!” Harriet tells us. “I was still surprised to see a bouquet on the side of the path as we walked along placed next to an envelope with ‘open me’ written on it. Inside was a poem that he’d written about me, and after I’d read it, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said ‘yes’ and was smiling for the rest of the day - we drove to our favourite beach, had a gin and tonic while watching the sunset to celebrate, and rang our family to tell them the good news. Here, Harriet tells us all about their special day with a summer boho and dusky pink theme.
