Your Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wedding - October/November 2020 (Issue 85)
Can you give me some inspiration for a glam look for my winter wedding? Rupert Kingston is the co-founder of Delilah Cosmetics with a shop in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. He says: For a showstopping look, opt for dewy skin, smoky eyes and defined glossy lips. To create this, start with a quality foundation primer like Delilah Under Wear Future Resist Foundation Primer to prep the skin which will make application easier. Use a brush to apply a full-coverage foundation, taking care to buff the edges carefully so there is no tell-tale tide mark. Next, sculpt the cheeks, jawline and sides of the forehead with a matte bronzer and switch to an illuminating powder to highlight the areas where you did not place the bronzer (Delilah Pure Light Compact Illuminating Powder in Aura will do the trick!) Finish the cheeks with a dusky-coloured blusher gently swept up and down the cheekbones. For smoky eyes that will last all day and late into the night, try buffing a dark grey/ brown gel eyeliner all over the moving part of the eyelid and blend well. Dab a little of the same colour under the lower lashes and finish by running a black long-wear pencil all around the inside waterline of the eye. Complete the eyes with dramatic strip lashes carefully applied with a glue that you trust. Finish the look with a nude lip liner like Delilah Lip Line in Pout traced around the lip line and fill with a matching nude lipstick such as Delilah Colour Intense Cream Lipstick in Hush. Add a little drama by dabbing some gloss on the middle of your lips. Voila! Joyce Connor is a beauty expert, blogger, public speaker, educator and a freelance writer based in Berkshire and London. She says: Your skin changes with the seasons and winter is when it can feel most dehydrated. During these colder months, adding more skincare products to your routine will help to keep your skin feeling and looking its best. Drier skin types will need to increase exfoliation to twice a week to improve the absorption of serums and masks. A rich oil serum before bed will help to give dry skin that looks dull a brighter appearance during the day. Oily skin can feel tighter and oiler during the cold weather. A good tip is to use a gentle exfoliating weekly product, like a glycolic tonic and a hydrating mask, to slow down the oil production on the skin’s surface. Avoid using harsh products that’ll strip too much oil from your skin. Sensitised skin can feel irritated during cold weather so apply gentle products before bed and use cool tepid water on your face in the shower. Mature skin will benefit from richer oil-based products like cream cleansers, nourishing face masks and skin tonics containing rose water. Spend time once a week giving your skin some pampering. All skin types will benefit from using a cleanser, toner, serum, exfoliating product, eye cream and moisturiser. When the weather is cold, we tend to increase the heat in our homes and this draws moisture from our skin so we need to replace that water. Invest in a facial mist spray. A light gentle mist several times a day, even over your make- up, will refresh your skin and keep it hydrated. Don’t forget to use a daily SPF in your skincare routine. UV rays during winter can cause premature ageing so a minimum SPF15 is recommended during the colder months. All skin tones need an SPF applied daily to protect from harmful rays. 87 EXPERT ADVICE
