Your Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wedding - April/May 2020 (Issue 82)

58 SAY YES TO THE DRESS Top of your bridal styling shopping list should be the dress. Trust us, once you start dress shopping, chances are you’ll end up plumping for a completely different silhouette from the one you’d always envisioned yourself in. So, it’s important to accessorise for a dress you have rather than one you think you want. This will save you a lot of heartache and cash. Once the all-important attire is ticked off, everything else will fall into place. Knowing what hue you need to match, what neckline you’re dressing up and what level of fabric detail you’re considering will make accessory shopping a doddle. You can even accentuate the detailing in your dress with coordinating accessories, mirroring the pearls scattered all over her dress with a delicate pearl hair accessory. BE YOURSELF Our number one piece of wedding advice will always be to do things your way. When choosing your wedding jewels, stick with what you know suits you. If you’re in a shop considering a piece you know you’d never normally wear, then it’s wrong for your big day. Be comfortable and confident, and you’ll naturally shine. If you don’t usually wear a lot of jewellery, now’s not the time to start! Opt for more subtle pieces, such as a delicate pendant and stud earrings, for a finishing touch with an element of sparkle. Worth a thought as well is whether you’ll wear it again. If you’re really splashing out and investing in a truly special piece, you want to be sure that it’s versatile and can make regular reappearances – look for something that’s truly timeless. HAIR AND THERE Decide also how you want to wear your hair. Consider whether you want to rock a veil, as this will help deliberations over a barrette, hair vine or tiara, and whether the statement will be here or in the bling. MATCH, DON’ T MIX Select your precious metals based on the hue of your dress to make sure you wear your jewellery, and that it doesn’t wear you! Be sure to stick with one and avoid mixing, which will look messy For white gowns, choose platinum or silver. For ivory gowns, choose gold. For blush gowns, choose rose gold.
