Your Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wedding - October/November 2019 (Issue 79)
ON THE DAY “When I saw Katie walking down the aisle, both myself and the best man gritted our teeth and whispered to each other not to cry,” says Jonny. “It was overwhelming to see Katie’s confident smile and cheeky giggle as she walked down the aisle.” Katie adds, “We were both beaming all day. I felt very nervous about walking in, but as soon as I saw Jonny, I didn’t care anymore.” He was accompanied by a full military Guard of Honour, made up of the soldiers he has worked with throughout his career, and it is a regimental tradition to make an arch of sabres for the newlyweds as they leave the ceremonial venue. On arrival at Latimer Estate, they had a prosecco reception with canapés. For the wedding breakfast, beetroot carpaccio, a trio of lamb and Eton mess was served. “I remember laughing with our best man that we had probably made the worst food choices for a white dress,” says the bride. The food was amazing, though, and all the guests thoroughly enjoyed it. As the evening guests arrived and mixed with the day guests, they had on hand the wonderful silhouettist Charles Burns, whose previous subjects include the Queen. It gave people who didn’t know one another something to break the ice, and everyone was able to take home a beautiful hand- cut portrait. After the first dance, the DJ played until 2am. “It just goes too quickly,” says Katie. “We both said how we smiled so much our cheeks ached! It was such a surreal blur and just completely unforgettable. You have to take the time for just the two of you to sit back and say, ‘Wow! This is our wedding!’” REAL WEDDINGS 35
