Your Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wedding - Jun/Jul 2019 (Issue 77)
FAIRYTALE WEDDINGS at FAWLEY HILL ALL ABOARD for a storybook wedding! People say that Fawley Hill is a cross between Narnia and Middle Earth. We know the Railway Children would feel at home here. You may recognize it from various TV programmes, including, last year the Great Model Railway Challenge. However, it isn’t all about railways! We have an animal sanctuary, and much more to offer! Civil ceremonies are held in several locations: at the station, on the balcony of the oldest “Director’s Saloon” still on the rails (Perhaps even be steamed away as you wave from its little balcony); in the Museum: another totally unique space; or under the Trees in the Wood, watched by deer and antelope and wallabies, or at Ironhenge: a circle of giant columns on a huge flat field where you can hold the “festival wedding” of your dreams with plenty of space for guests to “glamp” . Of course you can always marry in church and come to us to party afterwards: our local church is beautiful and within walking distance. From 50 guests to 500 or more: we have the perfect spot for your reception. In the station: the delightful flagstoned “yard” behind the station is often used for drinks before the main reception but smaller groups spend the entire reception here very comfortably. The museum is another unique space: have your ceremony here too: with the area being used later as a dance floor, you can seat 400 for a formal meal. If you prefer the great outdoors, the Festival vibe: marry under the trees, have some drinks in the woodland, then head to Ironhenge field for the remainder of your day or, as seems to be becoming the ideal: the weekend. There is plenty of space for “Glamping” tents for your guests and good loos and showers! Of course you CAN offer your guests a steam train ride through the park to spot some of the 600 animals who live in this crazy sanctuary: again, it costs a bit more as steam trains eat coal and need a lot of people to drive, man the signals and points etc., but it is a once-in a lifetime experience. Champagne on the train? Or the Victorian Carousel? Lady McAlpine is an experienced Wedding Organiser: call her for more information and ideas. Have a look at the Fawley Hill website and come for a look around. The photos here are only two brides’ interpretations of our spaces. We offer a unique blank canvas on which to create YOUR Dream Wedding. www.fawleyhill.co.uk: events@fawleyhill.com : 01491 571373. Fawley Hill, Fawley, Henley on Thames, R9 6JA
