the dancefloor or sitting around and catching up.” They even had an outside horsebox photo booth and a cigar bar with cheese and port, as well as a hog roast in the evening and a fire with hay bales around and blankets and marshmallows for toasting. “We just wanted a really relaxed outside feel,” says Kara. When it came to doing things their way, though, nothing could beat the wedding breakfast. Although it was a hot August day, the couple chose to have a full-on Christmas dinner, including stuffing and pigs in blankets. “It’s our favourite meal, and we had family sharing platters to allow our guests to interact,” says Kara. “We had worried so much about keeping everyone happy and what people might want, but it became so stressful that we just had to go with what was special to us. There was so much love and support that went into this wedding; it was really a family and community effort to make the day so special. Everyone says it to you, but the day goes so quickly. You just have to step back and try to take it all in.” REAL WEDDINGS 45
