Your Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wedding - August/September 2024 (Issue 108)

our florist, Lydia used in the arrangements,” Laura says. “We had milk churns filled with blooms and beautiful buttonholes wrapped in twine tying in with our rustic theme. Our wooden table plan also helped to set the rustic vibe of our day. It was painted with the words ‘take your seats’ and twine was wrapped across the wood with tiny pegs holding the guest’s names on them. We enjoyed making this ourselves and our talented florist created a green garland which finished it perfectly. For our place names and table names, we chose a classic font and design which Sam’s friend printed for us as a wedding gift.” The couple had fairylights filling the venue and a ‘Mr & Mrs’ sign. “We asked our loved ones to save glass jars for us to put tea lights in that were placed in the slits of the walls in the Castle Barn to add a romantic, rustic feel,” Laura says. Laura and Sam’s guests commented on the delicious food served at Wasing. “For the main course, we chose the herb-crusted beef fillet served with parsnip purée, thyme and garlic potato dauphinoise, seasonal vegetables and red wine jus,” Laura says. “How the chefs managed to cook it to perfection for 75 guests I will never know!” Another hit was the mango prosecco bellini which was the perfect pick for a summertime drinks reception.” The couple decided on delicious cupcakes and chose the flavours that they wanted. “Not only did they look incredible, they tasted it too,” Laura says. LOOKING THE PART Laura wore a beautiful, classic gown featuring clean lines. “It looked timeless with a dipped back and buttons running the length of it and it had pockets!” she tells us. “I knew it was the one for me because I cried when I tried it on and didn’t want to take it off. I chose a long veil decorated with diamante and featuring a beautiful lace design along the bottom which contrasted with the simple fabric of my dress. I wore my grandmother’s tiny pearl earrings and found some freshwater pearl hair slides on Etsy.” Sam chose a grey three-piece suit customised with a dark green lining inside the jacket and on the back of the waistcoat. “He had our initials and wedding date embroidered on the inner pocket which added a special touch,” Laura says. “Our bridesmaids wore olive green gowns which could be tied in multiple ways, allowing them to feel comfortable.” TIME TO CELEBRATE Laura and Sam hired the DJ Jason Lewis and a band called Copertura to perform at their reception. “They were both fantastic,” Laura says. “Our friend Mikey is the lead singer and guitarist for Copertura - he knows how to get everybody on the dancefloor enjoying themselves! He performed a great rendition of ‘Laura’s Mum’, instead of Stacy’s Mom, the song by Fountains of Wayne. Laura also surprised her new husband by booking the live saxophonist, Kelvin J Parker to perform during the drinks reception. “Kelvin was a fabulous addition to our wedding and Sam was beaming from ear to ear,” Laura says. “I was excited that it was our wedding day. It felt wonderful to have our loved ones gathered in one place, especially those who live abroad. Laura looked amazing and I was so happy to see her walk down the aisle. I will always remember waiting at the end of the aisle for her, not knowing what dress she had chosen. The moment she appeared, I couldn’t stop smiling. “ - Sam 47 REAL WEDDINGS
