When Anthony’s thoughts turned to popping the question, he planned to do it while on a weekend away in Brighton. “I wanted to propose on the bandstand, but it was packed with teenagers,” he remembers. “So I insisted we went for a walk to find a nice place to sit down.” Once they’d found a secluded part of the beach, they started chatting and the conversation soon turned to Nicky asking when he was going to propose. “I just said, ‘How about now?’” Anthony tells us. “I then got down on one knee and pulled the ring from my pocket.” Nicky’s first reaction was to say, “Not now, not while I’m having a go at you!” Eventually, of course, she said “yes”, and they returned to Essex full of excitement to tell their family and friends the news. The date was soon set for 16 th August, 2019, with a church ceremony at St Paul’s Bentley Common, followed by a reception at Crondon Park. Nicky fills us in on the details… REAL WEDDINGS 41
