74 Q&A Our local pros solve your problems Beauty TURN UP THE VOLUME Q I have very long, fine hair. How can I add volume and texture for my wedding? At your trial, I will assess your hair. Many brides think they have fine hair, but with the right luxury products and prep I can achieve 50% thicker looking hair. This is a temporary measure for the day, and once washed the hair will return to its normal texture. Hair extensions are another popular choice. Whether you opt for temporary clip-in, tape-in, micro-ring or pre- bonded extensions, they will give much more volume and length. My top tip would be to choose a shade lighter or darker than your natural colour to give beautiful depth and contrast to add a different dimension to your look. What can I expect and what should I take with me? I always chat to my brides before an appointment to find out about the venue, date, style preferences, etc. This allows me to have some gowns in mind, but of course you’re welcome to try on anything you wish. We offer two-hour private appointments, which means the boutique is closed and you get the whole place to yourself. No special underwear is needed, but you could consider wearing a strapless bra, high-waisted underwear and tights to make it easier to slip the dresses on. None of this is essential though; it’s most important to be comfortable. I welcome you and your party to the boutique with tea, coffee and biscuits, then we chat about your wedding plans and choose some dresses between us. I have a separate dressing room, where I’ll help you in and out of the dresses while chatting and making you feel at ease. I love seeing my brides feeling good about themselves – and if they find their dream dress, then that’s even better! How do I know what colours and products to use? Firstly, I’d always advise either booking a professional make-up artist, or treating yourself to a make-up lesson. The best place to start is by looking at the undertones of your skin. For example, if you have blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin, you’re likely to have a cool undertone, which means lighter hues like grey and taupe will suit you. Golden tones and dark hair suit richer shades such as copper and gold. Your wedding isn’t the time to experiment, so decide what you like and trial it in advance. Neutral colours like chocolate brown for the eyes and soft pink for the cheeks are always a winner for a classic look. It’s also important to find a good long-lasting foundation and concealer for all-day coverage. I like Estée Lauder Double Wear or Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Foundation, with Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape for brightening and concealing under the eyes. Finally, pick a gorgeous highlighter and a fool-proof, iconic lip colour like Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk, and you’re good to go!
