An Essex Wedding - May/Jun 2019 (Issue 86)
London calling I ncredible sights, Michelin-star restaurants, cool bars and world-class shows, London has it all, which is why it’s such a magnet for newlyweds. But how do you go about choosing the right accommodation when there are thousands of options? LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION Situated just a few steps from the prominent shopping districts of Knightsbridge and Sloane Street, and key sights including Buckingham Palace, The Hari is a boutique hotel that lends itself perfectly to mini- mooners. Its focus on contemporary art livens up the cosy communal lounge and bar areas, while the stylish Garden Terrace with its twinkling lights and foliage-clad walls is an ideal space for romantic post- dinner drinks and can be privately hired for special occasions. SUITE DREAMS Boasting an autumnal colour palette – think deep plum, burgundy and slate grey – the spacious rooms have been carefully designed for a range of occupants: those here on pleasure can relax on the artfully incorporated sofa with a glass of champagne, while those here on business are offered a desk carefully hidden from view behind a sheer curtain. In contrast, the bathroom is all brilliant, sparkling white, with marble finishings, luxurious lotions and potions, and a vast bath – the perfect place to unwind after a busy day sightseeing. FOOD FOR THOUGHT Il Pampero, the on-site restaurant, serves up mouth-watering Italian fare in a setting that combines vintage glamour with quirky wall art. All the pasta is homemade, so whether you opt for the squid ink tonnarello – delicious! – or the tonnarelli prepared in a parmesan wheel – one of the restaurant’s specialities – you won’t be disappointed. If you manage to squeeze in dessert I can thoroughly recommend the chestnut profiteroles with warm chocolate sauce! Breakfast is an equally indulgent affair, with a range of freshly baked pastries and bakery breads on the continental buffet as well as a selection of meats and cheeses. The full English breakfast was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and there’s a vegetarian option for non-meat-eaters. OUT AND ABOUT The pre-wedding fitness regime may be a distant memory on your honeymoon – if not there’s a 24-hour health and fitness centre on site! – but it would be remiss not to make the most of the hotel’s incredibly convenient setting to explore the local area. Cue romantic strolls along the Mall, window- shopping in the art galleries of Bond Street and some Instagram-worthy selfies in front of the capital’s historic monuments! London may boast thousands of hotels, but for couples seeking a boutique retreat in the heart of the city, The Hari is hard to beat.
