Southend Vox Chamber Choir is well-known for its ability to perform a wide range of music including pop, choral and swing; and recently the choir’s members flexed their vocal talents even further to learn beatboxing! The award-winning Chamber Choir, set up in 2014, usually focuses on performing intricate pieces well suited to special events such as weddings, naming ceremonies and memorials. Always looking to bring a different element to their choral singing, they decided to expand their repertoire to include some beatboxing in some of their more contemporary pieces. Beatboxer Lee Gibling joined the all-female group at one of their regular rehearsals in Westcliff to share his skills and find out if anyone had been harbouring a secret talent! Musical Director of Southend Vox Chamber Choir, Jo Human, says: “We love performing at weddings because it’s always a privilege to be part of such a special moment in a couple’s life. We always hope to bring something magical to their day and now we have this extra skill in our box of tricks!” It was a sunny, hot day outside and inside the workshop as the group built up steam learning how to mimic drum machines and create vocal percussion with their mouths to hits such as Lady Marmalade by La Belle, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy by the Andrews Sisters and My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It) by En Vogue. Daisy and Georgia met at 18 when they first started at the University of Chester. Georgia tells us more, “We met each other on the very first day and have been inseparable ever since. We become friends very quickly, but in all honesty I don’t think we were ever actually ‘friends’ as we started to like each other very quickly.” Georgia proposed on a festive, once-in-alifetime getaway to NYC. The proposal took place at Hudson Yards – the funky, stylish waterfront area on Manhattan’s West Side. Georgia explains, “The day before we were due to fly home, I mentioned to Daisy that I wanted to go back to Hudson Yards... luckily she agreed and when there I said I wanted to grab some more photos of The Vessel (an iconic architectural landmark in the area) as I didn’t get enough the other day. When we were there, I made eye contact with the professional photographer I had previously booked and he got ready to photograph our proposal!” Everything went to plan. Their proposal was captured and Daisy, of 30
course, said yes! The couple then went on to have an amazing engagement photoshoot in The Big Apple! Georgia adds, “The entire week we were in New York, the rain held off, but the one day I chose to propose it was raining hard. The photographer reminded me that rain is actually a lucky sign. This stuck with me and we even got married in a leap year!” On 24th April, 2024 Georgia and Daisy became Mrs & Mrs Archer at Gaynes Park. SETTING THE SCENE Georgia and Daisy had always loved Gaynes Park. So much so, just days after the proposal they booked for a viewing! Georgia adds, “We fell in love even more and handed our deposit over right there and then to secure our date. We took my mum and Daisy’s mum and dad to view it and they both fell in love too, so we knew we’d made the right choice.” The venue looked spectacular. Bergundy hues decorated the space, from deep red flowers on the cake to the wedding stationery to the bouquets – all softened with sprigs of eucalyptus and dusky pinks. DRESSED TO IMPRESS Two brides equalled two showstopping dresses! Georgia tells us more about the shopping experience! “We both wore dresses from Abigail’s Collection. We went together with our mums and chose our dresses together, so we knew what each other would be wearing. We actually ended up picking dresses that perfectly complemented each other. We both accessorised our dresses with J LO white high heels and diamond/pearl earrings.” There weren’t any groomsmen, however, Daisy’s dad was a main part in the event. He wore a dark navy suit with a rustic brown waistcoat with matching brown and navy brogues. He was also the only person to wear a white rose buttonhole to signify his importance. TIME TO CELEBRATE “The speeches that were done on the day were incredible and will always stick with us both. The overwhelming feeling of all of your favourite people seeing you and the person you love get married, on the happiest day of your life, is the best part of the day.” To end the celebrations, the brides chose a DJ so guests could dance the night away! Georgia adds, “Seeing both of our mums dance together made the evening and gave us a good laugh.” MEMORABLE MOMENTS Daisy and Georgia both felt a sense of calm on the day. Kudos for when all the hard work pays off! “We both felt extremely excited and overwhelmingly happy, we wish we could relive the day all over again. Georgina, our events planner at Gaynes Park was with us every step of the way. Any questions we had whilst organising the wedding, I’d email her and she’d help always putting our minds at ease.” 31 REAL WEDDINGS
