When it was extended during the 1790s by 2nd Baronet, Sir Christopher Sykes, the skills of Joseph Rose, the most famous plasterer of his day, and Capability Brown, possibly England’s most renowned landscape architect were employed. Their work resulted in the beauty and magnificence of both the interior of the House and the parkland still enjoyed today. Sledmere House is licensed to hold civil ceremonies in three of the principal state rooms, and the house will be closed and exclusive to you. The magnificent Library can host 110 loved ones and overlooks the stunning views of the parkland. The Main Hall boasts views of the fountain, the red deer and the Capability Brown landscape to name just a few. This space, which can accommodate 100 guests sets the perfect romantic scene. Meanwhile, The Drawing Room is full of history and charm providing an intimate setting with 60 nearest and dearest. Your drinks reception can take place following the “I dos” or upon your arrival. These can be enjoyed from the Main Hall and terrace where guests can make the most of the gardens and views, not to mention the red deer grazing in the distance. The marquee lawn is situated in the grounds and is a mere two-minute walk from the House. Adjacent to St Mary’s Church with beautiful views of the gardens it provides and idyllic setting for your celebrations. For a more intimate wedding breakfast, The Dining Room offers the perfect location surrounded by family portraits and views over the intricately designed parterre. The experienced in-house chef will be happy to discuss the extensive menu with you. The Sykes Barn, set in the heart of the estate, is a five-minute walk from the House and is part of a charming range of model farm buildings offering exposed beams, brick archways and an enclosed gravel courtyard. It can host up to 250 guests. It can be booked in conjunction with the House or hired and run independently, the choice is yours. Situated above the 18th century historical Stable Block, sits Sledmere’s newest venue – The Courtyard Room. This has the perfect balance of new and old with its exposed beams and an abundance of charming features. The high-quality menu here offers an array of options to suit everyone’s taste and the in-house chef will work with you to create your dream menu. The room has its own private bar, which the team will be happy to stock to complement your menu. Dancing is optional, but of course, highly recommended! Maximum seated capacity is 70, maximum standing is 90. The venue offers accommodation in the shape of the East Lodge, the luxury listed gate house. Here, you can enjoy a three-night stay.
