HISTORY IN THE MAKING We’ve rounded up some of our favourite local historical venues THE PRIESTS HOUSE 01756 720 616 | www.thepriestshouse.com For more than two decade The Priests House has overseen and celebrated big days, and the team have used their experience to hone and craft fabulous packages for your wedding. Service is at the heart of everything they do, from meeting you to discuss the details to celebrating with you and your guests on the day and look forward to welcoming you into their home. The Barden Tower site is located on the northern edge of the land managed by the Chatsworth Estate, in the Upper Wharfedale Valley. Although the location feels far away from civilization, it’s actually only a 15-minute drive from the picturesque and lively towns of Skipton and Ilkley. The site is Grade I listed and features the ruin of Barden Tower, originally a 12th-century hunting lodge, but extensively enlarged and fortified in the 15th and 16th centuries. It’s also home to The Priests House itself and The Barn at Barden. As the name implies, The Priests House was historically the place of worship for the parish of Barden. The Chapel was derelict for many years but has been extensively renovated to create a venue of unrivalled romanticism and charm for civil ceremonies. So, if you’re looking for that fairytale ceremony, the Chapel is sure to exceed your wildest expectations. With its grand windows, original stone, woodwork and bespoke chandeliers and wall lights, it has been fabulously restored. You’ll have exclusive use of the venue, and a dedicated service team while the grounds and building provide you with a range of stunning backdrops for those all-important photographs. It can accommodate 80 loved ones. You can then host your wedding breakfast in the Chapel with a maximum of 76 nearest and dearest joining you, and 85 guests for the evening do. Alternatively, following your “I dos” in the Chapel, you can choose to dine in the Oak Room accompanied by a maximum of 24 nearest and dearest. The venue also offers a Twilight Package for a more informal and romantic vibe. The Chapel really comes to life at this time of day and after you’ve tied the knot you can both go straight on to your photographs and evening reception. With the tranquil Yorkshire Dales views, nearby ruins and generally stunning surroundings, it’s a magical place during the evening. Being well aware of the vital role food plays in your big day, the venue’s team takes this matter very seriously indeed! With an array of wonderful menus from three-course meals, to afternoon tea, evening food and a whole range of optional foodie extras, no one will be left hungry. There’s even a Garden Game Package available to add some fun and entertainment to your drinks reception. The team here really have thought of everything! On the other side of the Tower is The Barn at Barden, which can sleep up to 16. It’s perfect for families and those wanting to make a weekend of it. It’s also an ideal base for your morning preparations and a safe place to give your littlest guests a break from the grown-ups! www.bencummingphotography.co.uk 17 HISTORICAL VENUES
