Your Yorkshire Wedding - November/December 2024 (Issue 69)

For our centrepieces, we went with tall gold flower stands topped with ivory and dusky blue flowers. The venue also has some stairs in reception, which we really liked when we viewed it, and Sarah draped them for us in an ivory cloth with dusky blue bows. This really helped create a wedding ambience throughout. I designed the place names myself and had them printed. I tied them to the top of the menus with a length of dusky blue ribbon. We were very lucky as my mum actually created and baked our wedding cake. She owns a small business called CJs Cakes. The inspiration came from a photo I’d seen on Pinterest. The cake consisted of four tiers. The first was chocolate cake, iced in white. The second was a lemon flavoured tier and was decorated with a dusky blue and ivory rose along with our initials in gold. The third tier was acrylic adorned in pearls to match my dress, and the final tier was coffee flavoured, Liam’s favourite. We purchased a rail and ivory faux flowers to make our table plan. We hung an A1 poster board from it, detailing the seating arrangements, using dusky blue ribbon. Each guest had a scratch card and 1p in an envelope, which read: ‘We’ve tied the knot, we hope you hit the jackpot.’ During our drinks reception, we had a live singer called Sammy Murdock. He sang and played the guitar while guests had a drink to celebrate. We asked him to do a range of different indie love songs and everyone really enjoyed it. 34
