Your Yorkshire Wedding - July/August 2024 (Issue 67)

“Lunch was barbecue sharing boards and Mexican Street Food for dinner. The food was amazing, the cocktails delectable!” Sophie and Craig made an eight-foot moon inspired by an Art Nouveau man in the moon motif. We also had Art Deco clouds, a giant five-pointed star, hired a neon light that said, “forever wild together,” and made our own three-person swing. Meanwhile, their friend Alice took some old Hollywood movie posters and super-imposed the family’s faces on them, which were used to decorate the venue. HOLLYWOOD GLAM The bride wore a top and skirt combo by Catherine Deane. “It screamed old Hollywood, and I chose the designer for her commitment to sustainability and ethical business practice,” Sophie shares. She paired this with a crystal Swarovski millennia necklace and bracelet with matching earrings and a veil, which she also added some more crystals to. In the evening she switched up her look and changed into a bronze, sequin Galvan gown with green Swarovski jewels. Craig wore a three-piece suit in check blue wool with a gold, paisley cravat. His groomsmen wore trousers to match the groom, with white shirts, braces and gold bow ties. The bridesmaids were dressed in spring colours covering the spectrum of pinks and purples, all in different styles. LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE Magician Neil Smith, drag performer Cuppa T from York, a burlesque singer Nelly Booberelli from Hull, and singer from Bristol Rosina Buck provided the day’s entertainment. The couple also booked a poet who came along with their typewriter and composed guests poems to take home. A friend of the newlyweds acted as MC and we’re told she brought a lot of laughter and joy to the wedding breakfast and speeches. The music was provided by Turn Up The Sun from Hull, who got everyone up and dancing. Of course, Mysterious Girl was a must during the ceremony, which everyone sang along to, and celebrant Rachael Bowers got everyone laughing and weeping. “Rachael made the celebration truly remarkable and handled everything with such ease and insight. She really got us, and we loved every minute of what was definitely the most special and important part of the day,” Sophie shares. ALL THE FEELS “I felt nervous, excited, grateful... all emotions at once,” Sophie remembers. “It was incredible to see so many of our friends and family in one place, and of course, to marry our best friend. The ceremony was incredible, everything we’d hoped for and more. We wanted fun, warmth vibrancy, the opposite of traditional and stale. A real highlight was my mum’s reading and our friend Anita who wrote a poem to perform during the ceremony. “The whole day was filled with wonder and joy, and because it was the hottest day of the year, we all enjoyed being outside, playing lawn games by the lake and singing along to the cabaret. I really think we nailed the brief of a super-fun wedding from the minute people arrived to the very end!” “We focused on having a lot of alcohol-free options at the bar.” “White Syke Fields and Steph from Rustic Rose, our on-the-day coordinator, went above and beyond – 10/10 fantastic.” REAL WEDDINGS 27
