ITALIAN FLAIR AT TAVOLA With so many Italian restaurants dominating the high street, it’s sometimes hard to find somewhere authentic; from the décor to the menus, it can all become a bit de ja vu! On approach to Tavola, Leamington Spare, I knew we would be in for something a little bit different, which I greatly welcomed! Occupying a prominent corner on Clarendon Street, the historic 200-year-old façade has been sympathetically considered with the new interior refurbishment, which reflects Italian surrealist painters of the 1920s. The uplifting ambience is due to the feature atrium bathing the space in light and the chosen colour palette and décor amalgamating its tone of traditional Italian style with a modern twist. That too can be said for the menu created by Tuscan executive chef Martin Serafino; it showcases authentic Italian cooking with innovative new combinations. Opting for a sharing board of a selection of cured meats and cheese from around northern Italy, it was certainly plentiful, and the social aspect of such dishes added to the whole Italian vibes of a love of food and sharing food with family. Following up with Spaghetti Gameroni – king prawns in a chilli, tomato and garlic sauce served with parsley – it was a mouth full of flavour, a perfectly balanced and refreshing change to what’s normally on the menu at aforementioned highstreet Italians. Honestly, it was too hard to choose; from Romana-style pizzas, ‘Mortadella’ sounded divine, to pasta dishes such as Rigatoni dua e Stracciatella and pan-fried sea bass dish Branzino’, it was all appealing. My partner and I even eyed our neighbours’ ‘schiacciata sandwiches’, which they raved about! Too full for dessert – something I’ve never said – we just enjoyed our drinks, watching the world go by in our corner window seat and admiring the restaurant’s décor. What’s great about Tavola is its varied offerings for your celebrations. Yes, you can enjoy a pre-wedding date night, but you can also book a private room for a sophisticated hen do or bridal brunch with great menus and an extensive cocktails list! Or, why not even consider tying the knot and heading to Tavola for private hire post-vows to celebrate in modern styles?
