79 PLANNING SOS FABULOUS FLORALS It is important to secure your key suppliers and mark your wedding date in their calendars. While the specifics are crucial for your quote, you don’t need to finalise all your choices. No decent supplier should turn you away and tell you to contact them nearer the wedding date. I have weddings contracted into 2026/27! Decide what you personally like. Yes, look at current trends in magazines and wedding fairs, but rather like fashion, if it doesn’t suit you, don’t be a slave to it. Themes can be fun; I did flowers for a couple working trackside at Silverstone. Their wedding was white, black and navy and featured 100’s of spark plugs in the bouquets, buttonholes and table decorations! Many brides choose wristlets or pinned corsages for bridesmaids and baskets with petals for flowergirls. But try to think of the pictures. You know how awkward you feel when you don’t have a bag to hold when your photo is being taken. Well, it will show in wedding photos as flowergirl won’t hold her empty basket anymore, and bridesmaids don’t have a posy to hold! A small posy doesn’t have to cost much at all. Check potential hidden costs like set-up fees, mileage and hire charges for hardware associated with your florals. If you miss these off your costings, your bill will be significantly higher than expected. By Arrangement does not charge for hardware as we loan it to you for the day, collect it afterwards and reuse it for other weddings. We also do not charge set-up fees or mileage. Ensure you know that you've signed up for a quoted wedding rather than an estimated one. A knowledgeable florist will be perfectly capable of assessing costs in 2027 and should be able to give you a quote, not an estimate. Quotes have to be adhered to, while estimates don’t! Ask suppliers for recommendations for other things you haven’t sorted yet. We see other suppliers, including venues, from the inside! So, when we recommend anyone, you can be sure that we look at work ethic, business model and general helpfulness and supportiveness to couples. So, recommendations here are a valuable tool! Finally, enjoy the process. Keep anything as a keepsake like magazines, brochures, tickets and more, not just the polished photos you will enjoy but also remember all the funny things that happened before your big day. But most important of all – don’t stress. So what if you can’t get the exact shade of dress you wanted, or your flowergirl gets mud on her dress on the way to the ceremony. Always remember why you’re getting married in the first place! Helena Brown | By Arrangement Florist www.byarrangement.org HAIR PREP Pre-wash prep is essential for a perfect bridal look! Ensuring hair is thoroughly dry before styling helps maintain its health and the longevity of the desired style. Avoid using any hair oils.
