Your Midlands Wedding - December/January 2024/2025 (Issue 95)

AUTUMNAL VIBES What are your top tips for styling an autumn-themed wedding? Nothing excites us more than styling an autumn/winter wedding. They always create a super cosy atmosphere, and you’re guaranteed a romantic setting when surrounded by candlelight and the crisp weather. Our top tip for styling an autumn-themed wedding is to include candlelight. Candles create the most romantic atmosphere. Our favourite way of incorporating them is by using cylinder vases with floating candles. You can use these down your aisle, and then they can be reused after your ceremony by placing them on your tables for your wedding breakfast. Another great tip for going with the autumn theme is to use pumpkins as flower vases. If you want to get really creative and add a personal touch, you can even carve your new surname into a pumpkin for your top table. One thing we advise when it comes to styling is to keep your guests in mind. For example, when thinking about autumn weddings, the colder weather is starting to creep in, and the last thing you want is for your guests to be freezing! Why not create a blanket box for them and add a fun quote such as, ‘to have and to hold’, in case you get cold’? Your guests will love these small touches, and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to create these little extras. Cara Bolsover-Ward and Daniel Thacker Moonstruck Event Hire | www.moonstruckeventhire.co.uk WINTER BLOOMS We’re tying the knot next winter; how can we enhance the season through our wedding flowers? Don’t be afraid of colour for winter weddings. Most couples gravitate towards green foliage and pinecones, which are always timeless and beautiful, but if you have your heart set on a particular colour, don’t worry about introducing it. Seasonality will always factor from a florist’s point of view, and there are definitely fewer flowers to choose from this time of year, especially if you want to keep them locally grown or foraged, but there are still some gems to be had. The bouquet in the image above is taken from an early February wedding. I used homegrown lilac as my accent colour; the warm colours of the roses and lisianthus and the drama of the black-centred anemones and blackberry scabious popped. The bride’s dress looked like stunning icicles, and the two combined felt wintery but without the need for foliage. Trust your suppliers to know what will work together, what’s in season, and how this will ultimately work in your venue. Usually, your bridal party dresses will play a big part in deciding your flowers, but not always. Many couples opt for black tie and black dresses to keep their winter weddings looking classy so that you can go to town on your flower choices. Be brave and embrace your individuality. One of my top pieces of advice as a videographer for winter weddings is to pay special attention to internal lighting. With the shorter, darker afternoons we experience in the UK, lighting is key in creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. It can also enhance the overall aesthetic of your wedding video, bringing out the details and mood of the day beautifully. Consider using soft, warm lights like fairylights, candles, and lanterns to add a cosy glow to your venue. Uplighting or strategically placed spotlights can help highlight key areas, such as the head table, floral arrangements, or the dancefloor, adding depth and dimension to your video footage. These elements create a magical ambience for guests and allow us, as videographers, to capture stunning, cinematic shots that showcase the intimacy and romance of your winter wedding. Investing time planning your venue’s lighting can make a huge difference, turning the darker evenings into a perfect backdrop for capturing unforgettable moments.
