In the evenings, they didn’t have reservations; they relished grilling locally sourced beef and lamb over an open fire, accompanied by a variety of fresh vegetables they gathered from nearby farm shops and market stalls. They dined at the Gwen Restaurant and Wine Bar in Machynlleth for their final meal. Gwen, a sister establishment to the two-starred Ynyshir, offers a unique experience with its 10-course, eight-seat communal dining setup in an open kitchen behind its lively wine bar. A standout dish from this meal was the caramelised onion doughnut drizzled with a delightful cheese sauce. During their stay, Rachel had an unfortunate accident and slipped on a step, resulting in a fractured rib. They spent the night at Bronglais General Hospital in Aberystwyth, where the NHS staff were incredibly caring and attentive. Rachel had to rely on codeine for the rest of their honeymoon. 36
