Your West Midlands Wedding - August/September 2023 (Issue 87)

A never-ending love Laura and Rich had a rustic-themed celebration at The Guildhall Images courtesy of Ten Foot Tall Photography Like most modern couples, Laura and Rich met online. “We went out for dinner for our first date,” says Laura. “Rich brought a book of conversation starters in case we had nothing to talk about. Luckily, it stayed in his pocket, as we had a lot in common. My first impression of Rich, with his designer shirt, leather jacket and earrings, was, ‘Yikes, this guy is going to be way too cool for me’, but he turned out to be just as nerdy as I am; I needn’t have worried. We bonded over our shared love of sci-fi and fantasy, and he impressed me with the first thing he cooked: chicken and pesto lasagne.” Rich asked Laura to be his wife while on a walk in Buxton. “We’d gone away for a few days and came across a beautiful monument called Solomon’s Temple on the top of a hill. I remember I was in a grumpy mood because of something that had happened at work, so we were looking out over these glorious views of the Peak District, and I was still chuntering away, when he came out with, ‘I don’t have a ring, but’. I think he only did it to cheer me up and change the subject, but it was still an amazing moment. The fact that it was unplanned also means I got to choose my ring, so it worked out perfectly. “I grew up in Lichfield, so I’ve been to The Guildhall many times for events, concerts and choir rehearsals when I was little,” adds Laura. “The hall is beautiful, and you can sense the history, but at the same time, it’s a blank canvas. We loved the idea of having our ceremony and reception in the same place, and the fact that it’s in the city centre was perfect as we were able to get photos with gorgeous backdrops such as the Cathedral and Stowe Pool.” Here she shares some of her favourite moments from their big day...
