Our experts answer your questions HITTING THE RIGHT NOTE Q: We’re looking to host an al fresco drinks reception with a live singer, what do we need to bear in mind, so the performer has all that they need i.e. shelter, electrical outlets, level performance area? Performer and songwriter, Ollie Wade (www.olliewade.com) says: The singer will require a convenient location to unload equipment, ideally with on-site parking or a nearby parking area. Outdoor setups should be sheltered from both sun and rain to protect equipment and the performer. Easy access to a power source is essential, and the singer or venue can provide extension cords for reaching more distant areas. A level performance space with ample room for the singer and their sound equipment is crucial for a comfortable and successful performance. Additionally, providing food and drink is greatly appreciated, as it can be difficult to source while on-site for extended periods. It’s lovely to feel looked after and a part of the day! CHILD’S PLAY Q: We considered a no-children policy at our wedding, however, on second thought many families and friends need to bring their little ones due to lack of childcare. How can we ensure everyone is happy on the big day? Hannah Foster, founder and lead nanny/entertainer at The Celebration Nanny (www.thecelebrationnanny. co.uk) says: We totally understand the balancing act of accommodating both your guests and their little ones on your big day! This is where a childcare service provide can bridge the gap and offer you a solution between having a child-free wedding – which can mean important family members are unable to attend and share your special day with you – and not wanting your special moments ruined or your day to be filled with unnecessary stress! Here are some of our suggestions to ensure that everyone, adults and children alik, has an amazing time at your wedding: Designated children’s area: Create a fun, safe, and engaging space for the children to play and relax. Tailored activities, games, and crafts will keep them entertained for hours; this ensures they’re occupied while you and your guests enjoy the ceremony and reception stress-free! This works especially well throughout the ceremony or speeches, as let’s face it, they are no fun for little people! Dedicated wedding nanny or childcare team: Professional childcare support, so you don’t have to worry about the little ones, means a team will take care of everything – from supervising playtime to handling naps or helping with meals, giving parents the freedom to enjoy the event while knowing their children are well cared for. Children’s meal options: We recommend offering child-friendly meal options to keep the little ones fed and happy throughout the evening. A child-friendly menu goes a long way to making them feel special and included. We can feed children at a separate table or in a separate room to ensure adults can enjoy their meal in peace and the children are served something they will love. Communication with parents: Let your guests know that children are welcome, and provide them with clear information on the childcare options you’ve arranged. This way, parents can plan ahead and feel confident their children are in good hands. They can pop in and out throughout the day and take their little ones with them for intervals or photographs and then return them when they fancy some freedom! By planning ahead with a thoughtful approach to children’s entertainment you can ensure your wedding day is enjoyable for everyone, giving your guests the chance to celebrate while their little ones have a blast too!
