Baking has been in my family for generations, but my personal journey began in Sarawak, Malaysia, learning from my uncle, an expert baker in a five-star Singaporean hotel. His passion for the craft sparked my own, and I’ve been baking ever since. When did you know wedding cakes were your passion? It all started after baking a vegan birthday cake for my twin daughters, Celine and Chloe, in 2016. That experience ignited my love for creating celebratory cakes that not only taste fantastic but are also guilt-free. It inspired me to start Monlicious and turn my passion into a business. How can you best describe your designs/services? At Monlicious, we specialise in vegan cakes made with 100 percent natural, plantbased ingredients. Our designs are creative and fun, reflecting the joy that baking brings to me and my family. Each cake is thoughtfully crafted to be as stunning as it is delicious, proving you can indulge in a naughty treat while staying healthy. Top tip for couples choosing their wedding cake: Focus on flavours and designs that resonate with you as a couple. Make sure your cake aligns with your values – whether that’s being plant-based, eco-friendly, or simply your favourite flavours. And, of course, don’t be afraid to have fun with the process! What’s your go-to dessert? It has to be the classic carrot cake. There’s something about its warm spices and moist texture that feels comforting and indulgent all at once. I started baking as a small child with my mum and grew up watching and learning from her. She made beautiful wedding cakes for family and friends, which later inspired me to turn my hobby into a business. When did you know wedding cakes were your passion? Growing up with a mum who made wonderful cakes, wedding cakes have always been a passion of mine. I love meeting the couples and playing a small part in their special day. The cake is always a focal point on the day and should taste every bit as good as it looks. How can you best describe your designs/services? I make bespoke cakes for weddings (and other occasions), with the focus on working closely with each couple to develop their perfect design; delicious flavours for their guests to enjoy (and remember afterwards) are every bit as important as the perfect design. Top tip for couples choosing their wedding cake: It’s important that the design of the cake reflects the couple’s personalities, as well as taking in to account the venue, and where and how it will be displayed. I tell my clients, ‘Have what you want – it’s your wedding!’. What is your go to dessert? My favourite desserts have fruity, fresh flavours. Perfectly ripe summer strawberries with cream cannot be beaten! Do you watch The Great British Bake Off? I’m not a big fan of TGBBO – the timings given to bake and create showstoppers are totally unrealistic. Baking and decorating a wonderful cake takes many, many hours of love, care and attention.
