cheesecake, and stonebaked pizza as the evening food – which all went down a treat with guests! DRESSED TO IMPRESS Vicky wore a satin Ronald Joyce dress, with a Bardot-style neckline and ballgown skirt. “I liked the style as it was very flattering, I knew I wanted a ballgown dress and preferred satin, something classic and timeless; I had intricate detail on the veil to add a bit of something extra. For accessories, I wore dangly earrings from Etsy, a sparkly bracelet from Club London and a pearl Tiffany bracelet (as my something old) that my grandparents had gifted me for my 21st birthday.” Vicky’s maidof-honour, Sally, gifted her the something blue, it was a little guardian angel in blue with the initial ‘R’ attached to symbolise Vicky’s grandfather, Ron, who Vicky was extremely close to but sadly passed away. Jamie looked dapper in a tux with bow tie, and waistcoat so that he stood out against the groomsmen who were also in black tuxedos. The bridesmaids wore full-length, one-shoulder black dresses from To Have and To Hold. LOOKING BACK Ater the ceremony, a steel pannist set the scene at the drinks reception, “The weather was glorious sunshine so this instantly uplifted the mood,” shares Vicky. “For the after-party, we had a live band which everyone loved, and we also had a caricaturist who stayed longer than booked because so many people wanted a drawing!” Expecting to feel nervous, Vicky was surprised when all she felt was excitement, “I surprised myself by feeling calm, the only time I was nervous was just before the doors opened for me to walk down the aisle but as soon as I saw Jamie waiting at the end of the aisle, my nerves melted away and I just couldn’t wait to be married to my best friend.” Jamie adds, “I bounced between excited, slightly anxious, and grateful for my then-fiancée’s meticulous planning! Once I’d put on my suit and had my obligatory getting ready photos with my best man, I was full of excitement for what the day would bring and having the first glance at my wife walking down the aisle!” With so many standout moments it’s hard to choose, generally the newlyweds were just overwhelmed with the huge amount of love and happiness on the day, “I don’t think there was a point when we weren’t smiling or laughing,” adds Vicky. “We loved having all of our favourite people in one room, celebrating us as a couple embarking on our new adventure.” One near-miss was the wedding cake, “The room was very hot and the cake started to melt and subside, so cake-cutting was moved swiftly to before the wedding breakfast started!” recalls Vicky. “There’s an excellent shot captured by Sarah of the videographer, Dom, catching the cake as it starts to fall! “My great aunt flew all the way from Canada, she had turned 90 in May and had had a quadruple heart bypass a year before; we’ve always been quite close (even though she’s so far away) and it was a bit touch and go whether her doctor would give her the okay to come, so the fact she was there was incredibly special. It also meant my grandma (her sister) was reunited with all her sisters for the first time in 10 years. My cousins in Canada also came over for the wedding and again, it’s been more than10 years since all the cousins were together so that was also very special!” REAL WEDDINGS 41
