Your Surrey Wedding - December/January 2024/2025 (Issue 110)

I was a nervous wreck in the morning, so much pressure is put on this one day and even though I had tried to keep the stress low, the emotions got to me. That being said, as soon as I was outside and walking down the aisle all of that disappeared, I saw all my friends and family ready to celebrate with us and only pure happiness was felt. I met John at the bottom of the aisle and nothing else mattered, we laughed and giggled our way through the ceremony; John was clearly overwhelmed with emotion, he was unable to look me directly in the eyes without welling up and stumbling on the word ‘solemnly’ even having practiced with our registrar beforehand! Our table plan reflected the travelling that we’d done together. I do love a pun, so titled it ‘Where in the world are you sitting?’ and it had an outline of the world behind the text. I had a small list of non-negotiable flowers I knew I needed for the wedding; thistles to honour my mother and her Scottish father, eucalyptus, a beautiful nod to my Australian background and lilies, my mother’s favourite flower and also my daughter’s name. The contrast between the greens and whites with pops of purple from the thistles made me so happy. We hired Madeline Castrey to play her piano for our ceremony and reception and it was the best decision! She created the best medley of songs for me to walk down the aisle to that meant so much to John and I. She helped set the tone of our wedding as fun and friendly and she played so beautifully all day, it was such a comfort to tune in to her playing specific songs that we had asked for. The tables were named after a country John and I had travelled to together, with a selfie we took at every location. It was special to us and provided a personalised touch that was unique to us. It was a nice reflection to see and reminisce on all the adventures we had shared. Our centrepieces were a variety of bud vases from garden centres, charity shops and florists. I love flowers, my bridesmaids and I shared an afternoon of filling more than 60 vases with various foliage. We didn’t have individual favours, but a donut wall and sweet cart; we really wanted to bring some fun to the wedding and thought this would be a hit! REAL WEDDINGS 45
