Make a splash Wonderful waterside wedding venues THE TALBOT, RIPLEY The Talbot is a landmark building in the picturesque village of Ripley, with ivy-clad walls and distinctive period features. The archway that leads to the courtyard retains the original gates and makes for a grand entrance and this quaint cobbled courtyard is lit up at night by fairylights. The Talbot boasts many period features from throughout its 500-year history. It’s home to 43 en-suite bedrooms alongside a restaurant that overlooks the terrace and a large south-facing garden. Emma’s Lounge provides a casual seating area with plenty of charm, plus there’s the cosy bar with a traditional log fire and low-beamed ceilings. An original sweeping wooden staircase takes centre stage in the main coaching inn while the restaurant boasts an ornate copper roof and stylish bookcases with homely artefacts that provide a 21st-century, country-house feel. The terrace and garden area are secret gems. Both south facing with plenty of seating, reception drinks, a quintessential English afternoon tea or a barbecue can be enjoyed here. The woodland area that surrounds the back of the property is used by couples for engagement shoots, along with the fields directly opposite the building past Ripley Green. The Surrey Barns is licensed for up to 80 guests for a ceremony. It has original beams and brickwork along with beautiful chandeliers. The Wisley Suite is licensed for a larger gathering of up to 100 guests and is a bright room with statement chandeliers suspended from the tall ceilings. The Wisley Suite, the largest at the property can hold up to 150 guests for an evening reception when combined with the Surrey Barns bar while the Wisley Suite has a dancefloor with space for a DJ. Alternatively, The Surrey Barns and Garden Room are suitable for up to 30 for celebrations needing a more intimate and casual feel. The happy couple is invited to a menu-tasting session before the big day, and a beautiful honeymoon suite is offered on the wedding night.
