Your Sussex Wedding - August/September 2020 (Issue 86)
Karlie and Ben are living proof that the best things come to those who wait Images courtesy of Alison Gaudion Fine Art & Documentary Wedding Photography K arlie and Ben met as colleagues when they both worked at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel. They weren’t close back then as they worked in different departments and were both in relationships, so there was nothing more than a mutual “like” for each other. However, some time after they’d both moved on from the hotel they reconnected through good old Facebook, and started chatting over Messenger, eventually plucking up the courage to meet over a pub lunch, which later progressed to a swanky meal in London. After all, as Karlie says, “There’s nothing like being wooed,” and the more they saw of each other, the more they clicked. “The timing just wasn’t right before, so it just goes to show good things are worth waiting for,” Karlie explains. Ben was a nervous wreck the night he proposed on a bridge in Amsterdam, but he needn’t have worried. Of course, Karlie said “Yes,” and the venue search was on. It was a dream come true for the pair to exchange their vows at Arundel Cathedral. “It’s close to my family home, where I was brought up,” the bride explains. Once the ceremony spot was confirmed, the next step was to find a reception location nearby, and they instantly fell in love with Upwaltham Barns. “It just felt right and had so much character,” Karlie tells us.
