When you are planning your special day, you want to know that you are in safe hands and that the ceremony will be completely tailored to what you want. The best thing about a celebrant-led service is that there are no rules, so you can include whatever you want! You may prefer a completely non-religious service, or you may want to include some religious or spiritual aspects along the way. You might wish to consider including a ritual such as an oathing stone or hand tying… It’s totally up to you! Your ceremony can be extraordinary, creating memories that can be treasured for a lifetime. samantha@sunlightceremonies.co.uk www.sunlightceremonies.co.uk Call: 07384 302 330 SAMANTHA BALDWIN, INDEPENDENT WEDDING CELEBRANT BESPOKE CELEBRANT LED CEREMONIES FOR WEDDINGS ACROSS KENT, SUSSEX AND SURREY. I’ve probably said, “This season is my favourite,” about all of them at some point, but hear me out! Springtime has to be the pinnacle when it comes to weddings. First, there’s the symbolism of new life that Easter brings. You’re about to embark upon your own new life together and the possibilities of reflecting that throughout your nuptials, thanks to Mother Nature, are abundant. This brings me onto sustainability. As any florist worth their salt will tell you, one of the major ways to protect the environment when it comes to your flowers is to choose locally grown blooms in season at the time of your wedding. Looking at the best of British, the spring offers you a playground of varieties oh-so perfect for weddings, beautifully fragranced, delicate, romantic and colourful. Picture your centrepieces and bouquet bursting with tulips, bluebells, roses, daffodils, a stunning array of wildflowers, and later in the season the burgeoningly popular peony. Yes please! So, I’m slightly biased, but Sussex offers the most glorious backdrop for your big day, not just during the spring but all year around. We decided to celebrate that fact with this issue’s Hot Topic, where the experts discuss how to bring those beautiful springtime vibes into your own wedding day. What’s more, for those movie buffs among you, we’ve taken a super-fun trip into wedding transport inspired by the silver and small screens. From Downton Abbey to James Bond, our experts will help you arrive in movie-star style. With plenty more wedspiration this issue, I encourage you not to miss a single page! Enjoy and keeeep planning! BENEATH THE STARS From admiring crystal-clear constellations to witnessing the mesmerising Northern Lights, astro-tourism is rapidly growing in popularity. In 2025, the trend is set to reach new heights, with a 53 per cent increase in travellers seeking destinations to experience the Aurora Borealis, while almost a third plan to visit Dark Sky Reserves this year. To help stargazers find the perfect location for their next cosmic adventure, Planet Cruise has conducted a study ranking the top UK destinations for astrotourism. While Snowdonia, Wales, takes the top spot, the good news for Sussex locals is that Black Down, West Sussex, makes it onto the list in seventh place. As the highest point in the South Downs National Park, Black Down offers stunning panoramic views and impressively dark skies, with minimal light pollution allowing stargazers to clearly observe constellations, planets and even the Milky Way. The tranquil heathland and wooded landscapes create a peaceful atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for sky enthusiasts. So, whether you’re looking for your next romantic date night, or simply need a restful break from wedding planning, Black Down promises an unforgettable celestial experience. DOWN ON THE FARM At Fab Food For You, nestled in the heart of East Sussex, commitment to supporting British farmers and sourcing local produce is more than a business choice, “It’s a deeply rooted passion,” says owner Jacquie Keeley. As a catering company led by a farmer’s daughter for the past 15 years, she well understands the vital role that local agriculture plays in our communities, economy and environment. However, recent developments have posed significant challenges to UK farmers. In October 2024, the government announced changes to inheritance tax, capping relief at £1million. This policy shift has sparked widespread concern among farming communities, as it threatens the viability of family-run farms and could force many to sell portions of their land to meet tax obligations. The National Farmers Union estimates that 75 per cent of commercial family farms will be affected by this change. So, supporting local farmers matters now more than ever, and at Fab Food For You, the menus are crafted using the finest local ingredients, celebrating the rich agricultural heritage of East Sussex. “We believe that supporting local farmers not only enhances the quality of our offerings, but also contributes to a sustainable and vibrant community,” Jacquie says. In these challenging times, it’s imperative to stand by our farmers. “By choosing local produce, we can make a tangible difference, ensuring that British farming thrives for generations to come,” Jacquie shares. “We’re proud to work with fantastic local suppliers including Sussex Foods farm in Arlington, CJ Stevens Butcher, Middle Farm, Nigel and Grocer Roxy and more. As a catering company supplying services across Sussex for the last 15 years, and as a company started by a farmer’s daughter, we’re proud to support British farming and always choose local.” To find out how you can too, by enlisting Fab Food For You’s services for your wedding, head over to https://fabfoodforyou.co.uk ROLL UP, ROLL UP! What’s more, the Hotel’s spa adds a distinctly contemporary touch with excellent facilities that include six treatment rooms and a heavenly relaxation room. Whether you’re planning a grand affair or an intimate celebration, the venue has an ideal space for your day. The mezzanine level of the Richard Towneley Suite (the venue’s soaring converted chapel) offers a breathtaking fairytale setting with its impressive 19th-century stained-glass windows designed by renowned Irish glass artist Harry Clarke. It’s certainly an unforgettable spot for ceremonies, receptions and dining for 80 to 150 guests. On the ground floor is the John Hayward Room. Licensed to host the same number of loved ones. A dream for al fresco “I dos,” is the oh-so romantic Summer House, nestled alongside the lake on the manicured lawns. Here, you can seat 100 loved ones on the grass as you exchange your vows in the shade of the Summer House itself. Charlotte and Tom celebrated their big day with a metallic disco vibe Images courtesy of Weddings by Liav Hit the DANCEFLOOR 26

Charlotte and Thomas met on Hinge and swiped right during lockdown in 2020. Charlotte found herself immediately attracted to Tom as he was always a man with a plan for each date, making it impossible for her to say “no.” He’d been looking to settle down and knew he’d found a “good one” in Charlottle when he got to date her and keep his Harlequins season ticket! Tom proposed in 2023. The jig was almost up when Charlottle bumped into him carrying a bouquet of flowers for her while she was out running. Not usually one for giving flowers, he had to think on his feet to dodge the inevitable quizzing, and explained they were a surprise for the hard work she’d been putting into to training for a marathon. Charlotte started to grow even more suspicious when her sister booked her a nail appointment as a treat, but she didn’t realise that the Saturday would be the day. She came home to find Tom on one knee in their kitchen with their neighbour’s cat there for moral support! “It was an easy ‘yes’ and we celebrated with drinks at The Shard,” Charlotte remembers. The couple planned to celebrate their wedding day in style with a big party and the church, and Southend Barns made this possible for them. St Thomas à Becket Church in Warblington is a rural place of worship close to Charlotte’s parent’s home and has a great many sentimental connections for her since her grandparents are buried there and various family members have married there. “It felt special to be able to share the day with loved ones who couldn’t be there in person,” Charlottle says. Southend Barns came highly recommended by a work colleague of the bride’s, and when the couple viewed it they were impressed by the team’s organisation and attention to detail – “The resident alpacas clinched it for us,” says Charlotte. “We also loved the flexibility the various spaces offered, allowing us to have different areas for each part of the day and the opportunity to incorporate special touches such as cocktail hour, fireworks and live music. You can tell the venue is a labour of love and we felt lucky to be able to use it for our day.” Read on as the bride gives us the lowdown on this all-important occasion… SETTING THE SCENE Having chosen a metallic disco theme, the couple picked salted caramel macarons monogrammed in gold for their wedding favours – a delicious treat for our guests to enjoy. They opted for a relatively plain table plan to mirror the layout of the long tables and keep the overall design minimalist and chic. Gold disco balls were embossed onto place cards along with a monogram design on guests’ menus for consistency. “Our stationer Laura was so patient with us,” Charlotte remembers. “She also produced our order of service with a sketch of the church making a lovely keepsake of the day.” The couple were thrilled with The Floral Artisan’s work. “Lucy did an amazing job with our flower displays and tables, bringing our vision to life with elegant and impactful arrangements,” Charlotte shares. “The flowers were important to us and Lucy was wonderful at taking our ideas and making them a reality.” The colour palette for the flowers featured orange, since Tom is half Dutch, with deep blues from the anemones, plus white with an abundance of greenery. Charlotte and Tom utilised a few different areas of the venue and wanted to make sure there was cohesion, detail and purpose to each. The drinks reception was held in the Dairy Barn, which they decorated with two large vases containing beautiful greenery, white calla lilies, birds of paradise and protea. As guests flowed from the Dairy Barn to the Threshing Barn, they were welcomed by a seating area featuring two large blue velvet chairs, a gold table, mirror and floral curtain against a gold wall backdrop. This also acted as the background for Polaroid shots, which were facilitated by a dressing up box. “This created some of the lasting memories of the day,” Charlotte remembers. The first time Charlotte caught sight of the main barn decked out in its finery, she cried. The décor included a further two large vases, along with a stunning moon gate adorned in white calla lilies, roses, green foliage and other deep purple blooms. There was also a flower meadow along the same vein, running along the “Where possible, use the venue’s recommended suppliers as they know the space really well.” 27 REAL WEDDING
