FLOWERS 43 Our experts discuss some key wedding flower topics to get you started WHAT’S THE PLANNING PROCESS WHEN IT COMES TO WEDDING FLOWERS? First thing’s first, put your heads together and decide on a budget for your wedding, then work out how much of that you’ll be dedicating to the flowers. To give you a rough idea, we suggest allocating 10 to 15 per cent as a minimum, more if you want a bloomin’ showstopping day! Once that’s sorted, it’s time to start contacting your favourite florists. Go in armed with as much information as possible from Pinterest boards and vibe of your day, to flower varieties you might have your hearts set on. Remember to be realistic though – peonies aren’t going to happen if you’re tying the knot in December! But don’t dispair, your experts will have some stunning alternatives in mind. Dave Carman from Gubbins Sussex (www.gubbinssussex.com) says, “I always like an initial call with you, to have a very informal chat about what flowers you may fancy and any ideas you have. I want to get a feel for the two of you and see what excites you. Then, once I’ve got an idea, we’ll invite you in for a consultation to get further into the floral discussions. Planning for a wedding should be fun and not daunting and that’s what we try to achieve with every wedding we do.” Bella Timbrell from Arabella Floral (www.arabellafloral.com) works in a similar way. She says, “I love nothing better than working with couples to bring their vision to life. When you first get in touch, I’ll send you my enquiry form to fill in. Your answers will give me a really good idea of what you’re looking for and whether (or not) I am the right florist for you! The more info you can give me the better, whether it be a Pinterest link or pictures you’ve seen, I find it incredibly useful to get the full picture of your dream, so I can ensure the flowers fit in accordingly. “After that, I’ll arrange a video call with you to talk through everything and then put together a rough quote to give you an idea of costs. If you’re happy with this, the next step is to book me. I’ll then put together a LET'S GET floral Highgate Florist Gubbins Sussex © www.jessizou.com Arabella Floral Gubbins Sussex © jamesgristphotography.co.uk
