Our flowers were very important to us and we wanted them to be wild, vibrant and fill the venue with colour as well as reflect all the jewel colours. Our florist got it spot on. Our ceremony was just beautiful. We couldn’t have wished for it to be more perfect. It was the first really hot day of the year and the sun shone non-stop. Everyone good-naturedly fanned themselves furiously as we exchanged our vows. When Dan and I were friends he vowed that I’d be his best woman at his wedding, so in his speech he explained this was why he didn’t have a best man or groomsman, as it could only ever have been me! His sister was his witness and my bridesmaid. Our keyboard player and good friend played Chasing Cars as I walked up the wedding lawn towards Dan. It felt truly magical, and we both cried at that moment – Dan never cries! Due to Dan’s, and now my, surname we wanted to have a jewel-themed wedding. As it was a summer’s day we also wanted to incorporate different colours so we didn’t just keep our palette to one or two. My beloved daughter and only child, gave me away and also acted as my bridesmaid. She wore a lavender dress to match Dan’s tie. 38
