Your Sussex Wedding - December/January 2024/2025 (Issue 112)

MARTYN RUSSELL PHOTOGRAPHY www.martynrussellphotography.com @martyn.russell.photography “Documenting a wedding is an absolute joy! The excitement and enthusiasm for the day is what keeps me fresh some 20 years later, with no two weddings ever the same,” Martyn shares. His photography style is clean, crisp and creative, and his couples enjoy his calm yet attentive approach that helps them to feel looked after from initial meeting through to the presentation of their album. “I love the challenge of unobtrusively capturing genuine moments of emotion between the couple and their guests, allowing the day to flow naturally, as intended,” he continues. “For me, photographing weddings isn’t simply a job but a vocation. It both delights and deeply humbles me when couples comment on having made a new friend in me on their big day.” He even finds himself visiting couples years later to photograph the arrival for their first born. MARTYN’S TOP TIP “On your day, be fully present. Let go of all the months of meticulous planning, the expectations, the countless revisions of guest lists, floral arrangements, meal choice, wedding favours, the lot. All of that is in the past, and your day will unfold exactly as it is meant to unfold so, breathe... feel gratitude for yourself, your partner and for your loved ones and absorb every moment in all its joy. Assign some time, just the two of you, to slip away from your guests in order to simply be a couple. Enjoy listening to the distant chinks of Champagne glasses and the sound of laughter as old friends excitedly catch up with each other while you immerse yourselves in your new married moment and the joy of being able to say, ‘We did it!’” www.martynrussellphotography.com RYAN HURLEY PHOTOGRAPHER www.ryanhurleyphotographer.com @ryanhurleyphotographer @ryanhurleyweddings Ryan recently moved to Hastings and is loving being by the sea. He considers himself a keen traveller and loves to visit new places, experience different cultures and meet new people, which is one of the reasons he got into photography. “I’d describe my photographic style as natural and authentic,” he says. “I like to allow events to unfold as they should, looking for special moments without interfering to stage the perfect photograph.” Each wedding is a story to him with a beginning, middle and end, so he makes sure to capture each part and bring it all together in an album so the day can be relived again and again. “I fell very lucky to have a part in preserving moments that my couples will treasure for a lifetime,” he continues. “I love engaging with my couples and their guests, cracking a few jokes and adding fun and humour to my photography.” www.ryanhurleyphotographer.com RYAN’S TOP TIP “My top tip for wedding photography is communication. Think about how important the photographs are to you. What style of photography are you looking for? Do you want to spend more time taking photos or have more time with your guests? Some people want to spend an hour on their couple shoot whereas others only want to spend 15 minutes. Either is fine, but it’s important to communicate this with your photographer. It’s your wedding day and you should do what you feel is right for you, and your photographer should be understanding and accommodating of this. Also, if you have any ideas in mind for photographs you would like to recreate, share them with your photographer and ask if they wouldn’t mind trying them out. Communication is key, the more information you relay the better understanding you and your photographer will have of what you want captured on your big day.” PHOTOGRAPHY 59
