Your Sussex Wedding - August/September 2024 (Issue 110)

45 THE LOOK OF LOVE Since styled shoot models Sophie and Tom are a real couple their first look reactions were completely genuine. Aw, look at Tom welling up! As I sit here in the office writing to you all, my mind turns to summer weddings and all the gorgeousness they bring. There’s much to look forward to as year on year we see our local couples stepping up the creativity and personalisation. With the fine weather (we hope) and longer days it’s a great time to get outside and enjoy the open air. There’s nothing like relaxing al fresco with a cool drink in hand on a balmy summer’s eve. Even better when surrounded by loved ones on your wedding day. Pastel palettes work beautifully in the summer as do brights, but have you considered blending the two? The trend for 2024 is using various hues of the same colour to bring the day’s elements together. Think Peach Fuzz, blush, coral and rust; or what about sage, mint, olive and emerald with a dash of gold. Keep the overall palette light using occasional pops of a dark or bright shade to breathtaking effect. Why stop at your venue styling? Colour too can be incorporated into your attire. Grooms are no longer restricted to black or grey thanks to a wide variety of summery pastel lightweight suits on the market. And you’re not forced to plump for white you know. Blush, light dusky blue or even florals are becoming more prevalent in bridal fashions. Bearing in mind the potential searing temperatures, keep yourself and your best gals cool in floating fabrics such as chiffon, organza, tulle and crepe. Sussex’s bountiful land comes to life during the summer months, so it’s the best time to serve a wedding feast packed with local, seasonal produce. If the sun’s out, guests might not fancy sitting down to a hot three-course meal, so have a think about the increasingly popular grazing table, afternoon tea or barbecue. For a sweet treat, surely an ice cream van or trike is a must! And bespoke cocktails in the gardens? Don’t get me started! Pimm’s anyone? Speaking of nature’s bounty, what about the glorious homegrown flower varieties that spring to life at this time of year? Picture a bouquet packed with sweet peas, roses, peonies, hydrangeas and dahlias – heaven scent! Not to put a downer on things, but the British weather can be a tad untrustworthy, but as long as you’re fully armed with a backup plan or two you can let it be as unpredictable as it likes without a care. After all, who needs an excuse to hire an oh-so cool tipi or rustic stretch tent for cover? All this talk of the sun might scare it away, it’s proving a little shy as I write this. So, I’ll leave you to grab a cuppa and enjoy this issue. As ever, enjoy and keeeep planning!
