Your Sussex Wedding - April/May 2024 (Issue 108)

Natasha and Cameron met on the number 12 Arriva bus to school when they were just 12 years old. Cameron sat behind Natasha but was too scared to speak to her as she was in the year above him. He’d go home and tell his mum all about this beautiful long-haired red head from the bus though, and eventually, thanks to his mum’s advice, he did pluck up the courage to sit next to her and ask her out. They remained extremely close throughout their teenage years, even living together at university. After graduation, Natasha moved to Canada and Cameron relocated to Germany but they kept their relationship going long-distance for five years until the pandemic hit in 2020. A week before lockdown, Cameron joined Natasha in Canada full time. Going from long-distance to being in each other’s pockets 24/7 could have been a challenge for many, but their relationship thrived, and Cameron proposed in Cancun, Mexico in 2021. The story doesn’t end there though, as there’s much more to this proposal that meets the eye! The two had been asked to take part in a short documentary focusing on people who’d been separated from their families due to Covid – at this point Natasha hadn’t seen her mum for two-and-ahalf years. The twist in the tale, was that the crew were actually filming a Christmas miracles promo for Canadian airline WestJet, and surprised our couple with an all-expenses paid trip to Cancun! Cameron wisely saw the opportunity here and quickly started plotting his proposal with the film crew. Indeed, WestJet had even more surprises in store, with the production crew following them on the trip, and Natasha was joyfully reunited with her mum on the rooftop terrace of their accommodation. Cameron was able to make good use of the distraction to put the finishing touches to his plan with the crew, and having later rejoined the family to film a dinner scene on the roof, the director gave Cameron his cue: “Ok, we’re done with main filming. Enjoy your dinner.” With that, the groom-to-be got up from the table and popped the question. Of course, Natasha was blown away and accepted immediately. With family back home in Sussex, it was important to the couple to return to the UK where they met and fell in love to tie the knot and celebrate with loved ones. “We wanted to create a real English country garden feel for our guests from overseas, so we focused on venues that could deliver this vision,” Natasha explains. When they found Wadhurst Castle it ticked all the boxes – after all what could be more quintessentially British than a castle? Natasha continues, “What really attracted us was the staff, they were so friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming, and played an enormous role in our planning.” If the proposal is anything to go by, we couldn’t wait to find out more about the big day… LOOKING THE PART The beautiful bride wore Blisse by Milla Nova, which she customised by having off-the-shoulder sleeves added. “It was simple, elegant, hopefully timeless, and most importantly had pockets!” she says. “I was looking for something to fit the venue and theme, but the dress I chose wasn’t at all what I thought I wanted!” An understated gown meant Natasha could really elevate it with her accessories and truly make it her own. She opted for a white porcelain headband made with trillium flowers, which not only reflected the theme but also her home, since trillium are native to Ontario. Natasha’s birthstone is pearl, so she completed her look with a pearl bracelet and pearl drop earrings. Finally, to help her keep warm on that chilly autumn day she wore a stole in the Ferguson tartan. Cameron went for a traditional Scottish look with the full kilt and argyle jacket. While his kilt bore the modern Ferguson pattern, his grandpa’s featured the ancient tartan version. Natasha had gifted him cufflinks on the Scan to view video Pssst… We absolutely loved watching the resulting WestJet promo knowing what went on behind the scenes!
